I've gone to this museum since I was in grammer school. Always great special exhibits. Best to become a member for discounts. No parking, except paid. Use the bus or the El. Plan on spending the entire day to see everything. Great gift shop. Pros: Special exhibits, Free day Cons: No parking more

See the world 5/15/2002

This is one of my favorite places to be in Chicago. Not only are the special exhibitions thoughtfully assembled, but the permanent collection is amazing. I especially love looking at the ancient art and artifacts and seeing where concepts of design were first developed. It's a very peaceful atmosphere, though many of the special exhibitions can be uncomfortably crowded, especially on weekends. Pros: Amazing collections Cons: Crowded on weekends more

An amazing permanent collection and an always-interesting series of touring exhibits. Rumor has it the annual pass saves you quite a bit of money. Don't plan on seeing everything in the museum in one day...you really can't. more

Simply Amazing 5/12/2002

This is one of those places where one day isn't enough. So, try to choose a few areas instead of trying to see everything. All of the displays are impressive. I liked the room filled with coats of armor and various swords and weapons. Another nice thing about the Art Institute is the location., lots of places to eat and easy to get to by CTA.
