Finally! Italian Restaurant in Jackson Heights 8/28/2009

I love Armondo's! I've only been going here for the last year or two. I only live a couple of blocks away. I'm not that crazy about their menu selection as most of it is simple, easy type of dishes you can probably make at home but I mostly come here for their specials! Especially their fish specials. I wish they would change up their sauces as they only offer tomato sauce (which is disgusting, worse than Ragu), their white (alfrado okay), or olive oil and garlic. The service is top notch. Waiters are pretty attentive most of the time although sometimes it can be a little bad. I enjoy their dessert (italian cheesecake) and their cappucianos. The prices are decent. The drinks are okay. I enjoy their wines (very small list). All in all, this is a decent Italian restaurant in a area where its dominated by Spanish restaurants everywhere you go and several Indian restaurants across the street. What can you expect? Not the best Italian food I ever had but very decent for the area that it is in. Pros: Service, Specials Cons: Lack of variety, tomato sauce more

AWFUL, REPUGNANT! 2/14/2008

After giving this restaurant a third and final shot, I can honestly say, the third time is not the charm. I took my significant other for dinner on Valentine's Day (last night), after being dissapointed with the food on two other previous occasion, don't know why. I know it's the service! The only one good things about this restaurant is their service and it's ambiance! However, their food tastes and looks like if they just opened up a microwavable meal, heated the meal and served it to its patrons. I had their minestrone soup, disgusting, tasted like boiled celery water chopped some veggies and through it in the soup, no flavor! I've never done this before, but I immediately sent it back. I had ordered the broiled Salmon, and this really did it! They served me a rotted filet of Salmon. As soon as I tried a peice, it was completely SOUR AND REPUGNANT! Without hesitation I immediately sent it back and asked for a another. However, after continuosly being dissapointed, I canceled the order. My girl friend had ordered a salad to accompany her Steak, it never came! Oh, and the Filet Mignon was dissapointing too. The only positive fact is, atleast it wasn't bad! The dish would of cost me $28 for a very thin medallion of filet mignon! Anyhow the owner approached me and apoligized for our bad experience. At least they didn't charge us for the dishes! We will not be returning!!! And most of their clientele are senior citizens, thats probably because all of their taste buds must be worned out that they can't taste how flavorless their food is! Pros: Service Cons: EVERYTHING BUT THE SERVICE! AWFUL FOOD more

A Great Restaurant 8/28/2005

This quaint Italian restaurant offers everything, great food, ambiance, an extremely polite staff which offers excellent service. There seafood salad is to die for, the Paella on Wednesdays is the best I've ever had and the desserts are super scrumptious. The restaurant is tranquil and intimate and it's minutes away from Manhattan. Jerry the General Manager and owner makes every customer feel right at home! I love this place. Pros: Generous Portions, Inexpensive, Service is great more

the best 1/9/2003

this is by far the best italian food in the city. the prices are reasonable, the portions are huge and the service could not get better, be sure to try the tiramisu for dessert and if they are serving gnochi then you HAVE to get it since no gnochi is comparable. i ahve been going there for at least ten years now and it only gets better. can get a bit crowded so call for reservations unless you come early. more
