Dave you are a SCUMBAG, read your reviews, do you really think you can get away with losing peoples cancellation papers and billing them months later??

Editorial review from Citysearch 11/4/2012

Buyer Beware! Do NOT sign the contract. Do a month to month only! The $$ they charge you to cancel is absolutely ridiculous and serve no other purpose than to exploit you for more money than this gym is worth. more

Great Gym! 4/8/2011

As a woman who actually uses free weights and occasionally lifts pretty heavy stuff in the gym, my gym has to be one that is not swarming with intimidating meatheads grunting gratuitously. However, it should have the free weight sets and machines that serve my fitness needs. The gym is conveniently located within walking and biking distance if you live in East Arlington or North Cambridge, and just a short drive if you're in Lexington or Belmont. The facility is clean, and the staff is courteous and knowledgeable. There are always free cardio machines to use, whether you bike, run or prefer those arc-trainers. more

The Owner is a THEIF! (SCROLL DOWN ITS TRUE!!!!!!) 8/9/2010

STAY AWAY!! Thess are Criminals..... 5/24/2010

My wife joined this club a year ago and had to dicontinue due to health reasons. First they delayed the whole thing and made her pay for one additional month. Then they charged her illegal fees. They actually took advantage of the fact they we were enrolled in auto-payment for monthly dues and could not stop them from charging our account whatever money they chose to. Now, we are disputing this charge through VISA dipute channels. What a waste of time!! Pros: Close to CVS big parking place Cons: Very Unprofessional and rude in their dealings more

The Best Gym EVER!! 4/30/2010

I have been a member of this gym for 5 years and I have never seen a broken bathroom, any rudeness in their staff and definately no wait for machines. I think the people that are writing these bad reviews are just nitwits that are confusing this gym for another. They are the most friendliest people I have ever met. They stop to greet you by name and always try to make you feel welcome. They are always cleaning the machines and the gym are and just recently repainted the entire place. The clientele are wonderful also. I have met the nicest people I have ever met in my life. Everyone is encouraging and down to earth friendly. No muscleheads staring in the mirrors at themselves or made-up women preening. There is an abundance of machines and I go 5 days a week and I have NEVER waited for anything!! If a machine is broken, the owner Dave has a repair man in right away! I also have never had a billing issue that wasn't attended to immediately. Come to this gym... you wont regret it. It is the best thing I ever did going there!!! Pros: lots of machines, clean, friendly personel more

mediocre gym and awful customer service 10/5/2009

This might be the worst gym I have ever belonged to and here's why: 1) All the equipment is old. While equipment is usable, and lacks features that newer equipment would give you...and for the $35 month, I would expect better equipment. 2) NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Easy to sign-up, but nearly impossible to cancel membership. Trust me. Numerous other posters have commented about the same thing. These chumps will keep billing you non-stop, and seeking remediation is difficult as the owner (Dave) will never call you back. 3) When the weather is nice outside, this gym gets stiflingly hot. It makes getting a workout extremely difficult when you cant breath. In conclusion, DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE!!!! Find another more reputable place to do business with, because Arlington Health and Fitness sucks! There are numerous options available in the immediate area and you would do well to investigate those instead. Pros: close to cvs Cons: terrible customer service, old old equipment, etc more

Worst Gym for CUSTOMER SERVICE 2/24/2009

Stay away from this gym. Worst customer service, full of themselves, and the equipment isnt that great!!! STAY AWAY!!! Pros: NO PROS more

A gym for professional 11/23/2008

i was just poking around city search and noticed the last review of ah&f and thought I just had to write something. I have been going to arlington health & fitness for a couple of years and it is one of the best gyms that I have belong too!!! it's not one of those big chain cookie cutter gyms but a small town gym where the owner takes time to learn your name and is there all of the time. i would highly suggest this gym to anybody looking for a gym where professional good to work out and don't have to worry about high school kids running around like they own the place. two thumbs up for ah&f more

not worth your time or money 9/15/2008

most of the people who work here are cool, so are the members- it's the owner who leaves a bad taste in your mouth. dave is dishonest and rude. he is also a sleaze and a pervert- watch out ladies! the gym seems dirty and the toilet in the ladies room has been broken for a few years. dave is known for charging people after their memberships are up and not letting people cancel. just a sleazy way to steal your money. it sounds to me like dave himself may have written the last two reviews, don't they sound more like ads for the place? take my word for it leave this one alone. he'll be out of business soon and off and running with your money Cons: the owner more

I don't recommend this gym. 9/11/2008

This gym is a dump. Yoga classes filled up too quickly. I had to wait in line for the machines I wanted. Nothing seems clean. Staff members don't seem trained. I had a month to month membership, however the owner kept charging me even after I cancelled. I filled out the cancellation form with a clueless staff member. When I tried to explain what happened to the owner, he screamed at me over the phone. I finally got things straightened out, but it was a horrible experience. Cons: Parking is a little tight. Rude Staff. Equipment not maintained. Classes filled up quickly. more

just a gym. 9/10/2008

it's just a gym. nothing fancy...you go in, work out, then leave. Everyone there is there to work out it's not a place for people to preen and look at themselves in the mirror. Pros: easy access on the bus, no wait Cons: parking can be tough more

Kept charging even after filling out form to cancel membership 6/4/2008

I was member for 2 years (though I hadn't gone for over year before the membership ended due to medical reasons). I went to the gym and canceled my membership 3 months before it was due so that I would not be charged after my membership ended. No such luck. They kept charging me. When I called, they said that they did not have a cancellation form from me and ""did I have my yellow copy"". I never received any copy and was not aware that I should. Shouldn't the people who work at the desk know what the policies are? Shouldn't they know how to cancel a membership and give the customer the correct paperwork? Now I have been charged for 3 extra months even thought I canceled my membership 3 months before my membership was to end. more

Don't waste your time with this one... 3/15/2008

This gym has lost most of its charm. It seems like the owner no longer cares what happens to the place. No maintenance and very little cleaning is ever done. I have been a member for over six months and the toilet in the women's bathroom has been broken the entire time. Equipment breaks down and is never fixed. When you walk in the front door, the majority of the time there is nobody behind the desk and since they don't wear uniforms you can't really figure out who is actually working there. It also seems like he hires anybody off the street. i am pretty sure half of them don't have any experience or professional training that would actually qualify them to work in a gym. It might be ""no frills"" as a previous review says but you would at least like to feel that you are getting something for what you are paying. more

Lame 11/7/2007

This place is lame; the gym isn't that great itself, but at least it was close to my house. Then I moved away, and after my contract was up (1 year membership) they kept charging me and required me to come to the gym in person to cancel my membership. Not like I have better things to do with my time right? All I can say, is I wouldn't recommend them based on the gym or their customer service. Pros: Convenient if you live in Arlington Cons: They keep billing you after your membership is up and require you to cancel in person more

Worst Gym of all time! 9/5/2006

They claim to have a month to month membership progam which is non-binding. This is not true. When I moved away from the area and verbally told them over the phone that I wanted to cancel. They wouldn't let me unless I came in to cancel it. I wasn't in the area and couldn't come in to cancel the membership. In the mean time they kept charging my credit card for several months even after I cancelled the card. At that point they sent it to a collection agency. I ended up paying for 6 months where I never used the gym. Plus when I was going to the gym I didn't get as much as a ""Hello"" when I came through the door. They're DIRT BAGS! more

low frills + low cost = great gym! 3/17/2006

I was looking for a no frills gym - a place with enough cardio and weights, and convenient from my home in Cambridge. Honestly, I'm not looking to go to the gym to eat, buy products, or go to a juice bar - I look for a place where I can go in, work out, and go back to my life. Arlington Health & Fitness fits it perfectly. The staff is great, very helpful and always have a smile on their face. The low cost is key, I joined for a 1-year contract, which works out to $29.99/month. Can't beat it! Pros: cost, staff, parking more

Best of Arlington 11/15/2005

Arlington Health and Fitness if the best gym around. It's a friendly, affordable, welcoming place to be. The staff members are wonderful. They're highly skilled, approachable and always willing to help. If you're having a bad day, one of them is sure to make you smile. Whether you're an athlete a grandmother or a person like me, just trying to stay in shape and shed those extra pounds, this is a fitness center that will make you feel completely comfortable. Pros: Great cardio deck, clean, affordable more
