Several years ago, I had a chance to visit the US Capitol building and was very impressed. I was lucky in that I had a chance to have breakfast there with some congressman, sit on the house floor, ride the underground train which moves between the different capitol buildings, and to sit in on a live debate. While I'm not sure how any of this has changed since 9/11, if given the opportunity, I would really recommend it. It truly gives you a perspective into the way the legislative body works and certainly helps you to appreciate the process.
