One of the best in St. Louis 12/27/2010

Highly reccomend for amazing food and great service. Good for business outing or romantic dinner for two (ask for a private booth). The smoke house next door has great treats for take home. more

good food bad smoke 10/24/2009

While the food was good, not great, the smoke is intolerable. The steak was good, the mashed potatoes only fair but one can't get away from the smoke and that ruins the entire atmosphere. While I hate eating around all smoke, the cigarette smoke was OK, but once people starting smoking cigars it was awful. I will not go back until they stop allowing cigar smoking!! the owners should know better! Pros: good steaks Cons: SMOKE more

Very Disappointed 8/4/2009

This restaurant is sooo overpriced for what you eat, quantity and quality. I went there with friends, and it was just one big show....like who could impress who more. Food was adequate, and that is being kind, wait staff...acceptable. When I want good food, I dont mind paying the price, but this is about people saying how much they spend just to say they came to your establishment. I dont get into that kind of kindergarten mentality, I go out to eat for good food regardless if it is at your establishment or somewhere else. I dont go somewhere to brag about the ""name"", I go for ambience and good food!! Pros: Not too many... Cons: Read below ! more

Over rated 8/1/2009

Steak selections are over priced. One would expect prime steaks not angus for the money. If you want a good steak stick with the best: Mortons or Ruth Kris. Pros: Friendly Staff Cons: Smoking permitted, over priced more

First timer expectations! 4/29/2008

Over Rated!! We were first timers and obviously had expectations that far exceeded their reality!! Were seated at a corner table by the rest room, it was busy not a problem. About every employee passing by bumping into my wife's chair and acted disgusted like she was in the way.(BTW She is not fat by any means & had pulled in tight to the table.) The head waitress passed by and bumped her in the head with a stack of menus, she was holding in her right arm.(And I am positive it was quite by accident!) When asked if we could have another table they acted like we were asking for the world and left us sitting for about twenty minutes. Finally the head waitress that bumped my wife in the head came over and inquired why we wanted to move? We explained and were told they were busy and stuff like that just happens.(NO Apologies!!) Also she wanted to argue with us about her bumping my wife in the head!! As opposed to saying she was sorry and did not realize she had done it, she went into a dissertation denying that it happened. The food! It was ok but but not remarkable. We have eaten at far better restraints than Annie Gunn's for less money!! The waiter was above average & friendly!! The Management has a lackadaisical attitude and needs retraining in Customer Service. This place has (Had) a good reputation from the past as was conveyed by several friends. But, they obviously have had a drastic decline in competent employees and are trying to survive off their past reputation. As I guess you may have surmised for your self by now this was our First and Last time eating at Annie Gunn's! Good Luck if you chose to try it. Pros: UMMM? Cons: Read Review! more

Average food, Above Average prices 11/29/2007

Ended up at Annie Gunns last weekend for dinner with friends. Nice vibe walking in the door. Lively crowd, tv's showing sports up above us. Overall, feel of place thought I was in for a good dinner. more

Over Priced, Over Rated, Cave Like 10/10/2007

Annie Gunns... The apps were ok. How can you screw up chips. The drinks are very, very expensive. The meal was ok (sent steak back because it was overdone). Portion size were small... for what was charged I should have been able to take the plate home. Be prepared to wait even though you made reservations. more

Too expensive for normal food 10/7/2007

Annies is what I would deem 'normal' food. Potatoes that taste like potatoes, a steak that tastes like a steak. Good crab cakes. Decent glass of wine. Pros: Outside patio, friendly staff Cons: Crowded, loud, overpriced for what is served more

Best steaks and seafood. Very good wine, nice atmosphere and good service. 12/10/2006

Jaalain's review was totally wrong. Annie Gunns is a wonderful restaurant. She must have ordered her steak well done because their steaks are never tough. Their steaks and seafood are wonderful. They have the best meat loaf ever along with their jumbo grilled shrimp. Their steaks will melt in your mouth. Check out their specials as you can't go wrong. Try their Selbach wine with your meal as well. Pros: Cozy atmosphere. Good food. Cons: Long wait during the weekends more

Smokers rule 6/16/2006

No qualms about the food and servive, although a little pricy...but be ready for an atmosphere where it's almost impossible to hide from the smokers. Pros: very good food Cons: smoke, smoke, smoke more

OverOverpriced 2/10/2006

Atmoshere is warm and pleasent. The food and drinks are way way way overpriced but decent. I dine out 4 to 5 nights a week with my wife and friends. St Louis has many fine resturants that are reasonable with better food. Overated. Pros: atmosphere Cons: prices, food quality more

Pathetic ... just plain pathetic! 9/16/2005

I am from Manhattan, have traveled and lived all over the world ... I have sophisticated taste ... I know value ... and rest assured Anne Gunn's has neither. I guess if one is from St Louis one would think this place expensive and it is considering the extremely low quality of the food and service. There were four of us here on business ... we tried a little of everything ... steak (amazingly tough!! worst I have ever had) ... swordfish (extremely fishy smell, obviously not very fresh) ... but what can one expect from a restaurant that specializes in POTATOES!! I do admire the owners of Gunn's as they have hit on a gold mine ... diners that know nothing about food that are willing to pay anything for it. Watching the uninformed clientele was enjoyable ... everyone trying to ""out pretend"" each other. What a hoot! Pros: None-Skip it! Cons: Bad Food, Bad Service, Very loud more

Legendary and for good reason 2/16/2005

Steaks prepared to perfection and some of the freshest fish I've ever had in the midwest. The Yellow fin tuna was absolutely perfect and the fresh oysters were great. The chef doesn't cover the flavor of the meat by drenching it in sauce. Food is very expensive but well worth it. Same goes for wines by the glass, but where else can you get a glass of Opus One? Bottle prices were on par with most good restaurants and selection is great. Pros: Wine List, Service, Steak & Seafood Cons: Expensive, Atmosphere more

Hardy's beats Annies?? NOT!! 7/8/2004

AG's has THE best burger going! Steaks are great, and the BBQ shrimp is awesome. The crab cakes, sandwiches, potatoes...I could go on and on. And they dont water down their drinks!! On the negative side, it is a bit crowed and noisy, and you gotta make reservations way in advance. But over all, you cant get a better burger for the money. Pros: great food, good service, good drinks more

Annie Gunn 3/7/2004

It's a shame that the owners did not consider what importance people attach to noise levels. My wife and I and another couple dinned there a few months ago. We were seated in a booth and the noise level was such that meaningful conversation was near impossible. The food was very good and served in a timely manner. The pluses stopped there. We'll not return. more

Both Editors and Readers Missed the Boat 8/23/2003

OK, I know I'm talking about my beloved fellow St.Louisans and I've been here since I was born except for 7 years right after college, but guys....you're dining tastes are NOT sophisticated enough to rate hot dogs! Annie Gunn's is simply the best restaurant in the area. Ask anyone who visits St.Louis and they will tell you where they dine. It's NOT Tucker's! Thankfully AG's will not close due to you C minus semi-morons. There are enough regulars to keep it going in a very healthy way. In the mean time, those of you who voted for the likes of Tucker's or Outback or any other cheap chain-type place that was ahead of AG's on the list, try a real steak at Annie Gunn's. Spend a few bucks more. It won't break you. Pros: Fantastic food, Great Service, Few Hoosiers Cons: Tough Reservation, I don't own it more

inTOP3 8/11/2003

We currantly visited the infamous ""Annie's"" and were not let down by any part of our experience. From the phone reservation to the thank you many times at the end....we cannot wait to return. The food was both familiar and new. Our server was very knowledgable and helped us through what we would like and what price range would allow us to enjoy the entire experience without leaving broke. I will recommend this place to everyone as one of the top 3 places in STL to dine. Pros: friendy staff, knowledgable service, unbelievable food Cons: noise level, ventilation of bar more

Pathetic 6/18/2003

123 bucks for an appetizer, two steaks, two house salads, two glasses of wine and two coffees. It would have been too expensive at half the cost but then you wouldn't have been treated like they were doing you such a huge favor by allowing you to be in their presence. Go there if you want to be treated like crap, get the worse service in your life and spend three times more than what it's worth. If they know you have money, you'll be severely sucked up to. We watched it from our table. It was pathetic. Pros: good steak Cons: extremely overpriced, terrible service more

Adding Items 5/8/2003

Food was excellent but we were surprised to realize after receiving the bill that the shrimp were $4 apiece that was ordered with our salad as an additional item. more

Good and Bad 2/18/2003

The first time I went to Annie Gunns I was not impressed. For the price I paid, I left hungry and not satisfied with the taste. Since then, I've been back once on my $ and twice on someone elses $. The last 3 times have made up for my first visit. It still is very expensive but the food and service have been great. This is a meat market for the middle age group of people, that is just fyi. It is a place everyone in St. Louis must go though. I'd would recommend it. Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Service Cons: Price, portions, sometimes more
