Editorial review from Citysearch 9/17/2012

Dr. Saulter is a wonderful and very caring vet. He took excellent care of my elderly dog and I recently adopted to rescue shih tzu's - one 6 and the other 13. Dr. Saulter and the assistants at Animed are incredibly thorough and caring individuals. They're kind, compassionate and very good at what they do. Their first priority is what's best for the animal. more

Do Not Bring Your Pet Here 4/18/2012

Dr. Salter is a horrible vet. I brought a mom cat that just had kittens into to see him because it was not taking careof kittens and did not look good at all. He did not even examine her he looked at her in cage and said shes fine. He never even touched her. Day after she had a still born kitten. I called to tell him and he said she was still fine, then today she died. He did not even care that she died and if he had just done his job and examined her she would still be alive today. Now the mom is dead and the kittens have no mom. Dr. well if you want to call him that Salter was very rude and didn't even care about the cat. If you want your pet to have a chance to survive do not take them to Animed hospital. more

Totally insensitive to dying cat, and owners 8/24/2010

I created an account specifically to review this place, namely, the vet, Dr Salter. I took my 12 year old cat to be euthanized here recently, and all I wanted was to help soothe my cat in quiet and respect while Dr Salter put her to sleep. Instead he informed me the cat has ear mites and then spent the entire time talking to me about her ear mites, which made me feel even worse that I hadnt noticed them before. I didnt want to talk to him, I wanted to say goodbye to my cat! What was the point of him saying that? Did he want to treat her ear mites right then and there?? I even asked him to be quiet while I tried to soothe the cat while she passed away but he kept blabbering on. He was so insensitive. I will NEVER go back there to have any animal treated in any way, alive or deceased. What an awful way to treat a grieving pet owner-like it wasnt hard enough. Never again. more

STAY AWAY from Animed unless you want substandard care and an overdosed pet. 8/26/2008

I took my dog here to talk to the vet about his anxiety and was prescribed med to help him be more responsive to the behavior modifications. The vet says that the vet tech will give me 3 weeks of med and the vet tech has to compound the med for me. She tells me to give 5mgs 2x a day, which is also on the bottle, and shows me what line to fill the syringe to. I ask about side effects and am told none- which I find out online is a lie. Pros: can't think of any Cons: might contribute to the death of your dog and will ignore your calls while they do it more

One of the most caring vets I have ever met 7/25/2008

Dr. Salter is simply one of the most caring vets I have ever met. I have been bringing one cat there for 13 years, another for 6 years, and another for 5. One of my cats is often vicious towards strangers, and Dr. Salter always knows how to handle her. He is matter of fact, and doesn't mince his words, which I appreciate. I have recommended many people to his practice, and they have all been satisfied. He has saved my cat's life before, and has always been available when needed in an emergency. Pros: Parking, Hours, Location, Prices, Compassion for animals Cons: Office could use some sprucing up more

Great kennel even for a dog who is a 'tough customer' 6/24/2008

My dog has issues-I adopted him from the pound that way. He's nervous around other dogs and has inexplicable issues with some people (usually innocent ones-like mothers with baby carriages!?). Pros: Local kennel. Conveniently located. Staff were pleasant and professional. Dog was happy. more

DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE! WARNING 2/28/2008

My 5-year-old cat named Piccolo, was diagnosed with a urinary infection. The doctor not only proscribed prednisone, which is used to treat cancer and post surgery patients, but also antirobe which is used to treat dental health, and the side effects include a loss of appetite and over time major organs develop a persistent invasion of toxins and bacteria. Not knowing that these medicines were slowly killing our beloved pet, we continued to give him these for a month, not seeing any results. Another medicine proscribed was metacam which has side effects that include kidney toxicity. When he was brought in for the 2nd time in February 2008, because he could not urinate, defecate, eat or drink, the doctor tried to empty his bladder. Instead of emptying the bladder in a traditional method, the doctor squeezed the bladder in efforts to empty it, saying to my father ""you're in the line of fire"". Then tired to empty it using a needle. He informed us that the bladder was not that full. He also had taken x-rays and a urine sample to be sent for analysis. He could not tell from the x-rays that his bladder had erupted and that all of his organs were swimming in urine. When he got home he would not move, and when picked up or even touched he cried in pain. When we had finally brought him to the Angell Memorial Emergency Room, 2 days later, after the medicine proscribed obviously had taken not effect, the vets there told us that his bladder had erupted mostly likely from the Dr.Salter trying to empty him bladder physically. Not only that but his kidneys had shut down and it would take extensive surgeries and a kidney donation to fix him. Even after surgery it would not be likely that he would survive. The only option was to put him to sleep. When we called Aimed to request the results of the urine test, they would not release that information because the cat was now deceased. A 5-year-old cat that we have had since he was a kitten. Cons: kills animals more
