I have taken both my bostons to this office. Dr. DeShields is the only vet I will take them to. He's been great with one of mine - she's a rescued Boston with different health concerns. He's been great with not pushing me to a specialist if we can take the time to try an alternative approach to save the dog major invasive surgery. He's personal, actually likes the animals (have seen vets who I'm sure don't really like animals), and actually communicates with the pet parent. I am a tough customer when it comes to my dogs and what I expect for treatment and communication and he gets an ""A"" from me. Can't recommend him enough. more

I have been doing business with Animal Clinic of Brandon for about ten years, but I will no longer use them going forward. Dr. Jackson's level of professionalism has declined through the years. She lacks empathy and does not treat her customers with respect. It is such a shame because I used to enjoy dealing with her.\r \r I did have an issue getting my records to take to another vet. My dog is not due for his annual for another five months and I did not really want to take him to another vet to get a refill on his prescription. I was told that they had never written a prescription for his medication. They are either not being truthful or have been dispensing my dog's medication without a prescription. Either scenario makes me uncomfortable. more

Terrible Treatment 11/11/2011

I had them for a vet for my 15 1/2 old dog. Kenneled him there for a week. Brought him home after vacation and had to put him down 2 days later. They dropped the ball in how they handled him while he was there and how they handled his health issues and how they handled us. They made his passing more miserable because of that. They even made us sign a form when we dropped him off to be kenneled, where we had to write in an amount we were willing to spend if anything would go wrong with him while he was there...how tacky....I do not recommend them at all to anyone. more

Let Us down on care of Pet 11/11/2011

I am not going to even go into what happened with my 15 1/2 dog when we left him at this clinic to be kenneled. Lets just say we left him there for a week. We came home got him out of the kennel and he had to be put down 2 days later. This was his vet place since he was I believe 9 or 10 y/o yet I don't believe they even looked at his chart or attended to him at all. I thought it was awful when we dropped him off they made us sign a form and write in how much we were willing to spend should something happen to our dog while we were gone. We were in shock and were not happy but could do nothing, as we were leaving that day and had no time to put him somewhere else. They made my dog's passing and our loss so miserable I would not recommend them to anyone now. more

Worst Vet I have ever dealt with 4/5/2010

I recently moved to Brandon from other side of town. My 10.5 year old Golden Retriever started having seizures. I was referred to Animal Clinic of Brandon.... Went in on Tuesday morning. I knew my pet was not doing well, she had been having issues for a year. Anyway, I got past Vets history sent, BUT Vet Jackson insisted on more tests... same results...negative. Dog had seizure right in the office and she gave her a shot to calm her. I also got Vallium and Phenobarb pills. $230 visit. ($30 juast for the shot to calm her) Gave dog the pills Tues night and Wednesday morning. She was laying down... at lunch time she had still not moved. Called vet, said do not give pills anymore (the tech said this, not the vet) Thursday, she still had not stood up, called again. Vet was out that day. Told to call back and they would ask another vet. Friday morning I call ed again. Vet was busy. told to leave a msg, which I did. Did not hear back. Called again in afternoon. Vet was busy. I was furious, but calm. I said, if this vet cares, then she should call me. My dog has not walked since she gave her drugs and I had two bottles of pills that was told not to give! Still no call back. Lots of other details, but I never received a call. I finally made appointment with my old vet that was over an hour drive away. Well, NOW they call me back.... why am I having the test records sent somewhere else???? I said, because Vet Jackson is the worst most uncompassionate Vet I ever met. She will not even return a call.\r Anyway, my dog never cam home from the visit to old vet on saturday.... she was too far gone. I miss her and feel terrible that i did not get her the medical advice that I was hoping for. Pros: Low level staff is nice Cons: Do not return calls, no urgency, completely unsympathetic more

the best vet around! 6/20/2008

i am VERY picky when it comes to taking my dog to a vet, (trust me...I've been in and out of vets searching for the right one for years!) and i have found the Animal Clinic of Brandon to be wonderful. And it is now my one and ONLY vet. The whole staff and all the doctors are very nice and everyone treats your animal like it was their very own. I always feel like my dog is getting the best care possible and would recommend this place to everyone. They only do what is necessary too. I've been to places where they lie about treatments just to get money, but the Animal Clinic of Brandon is honest! i LOVE this place and so does my dog! :) Pros: nice staff, new and bigger waiting room Cons: can't think of any. more
