I would not recommend this insurance company to my worst enemy. They are the worst company I have ever dealt with!!! They refuse to return your messages. They cancelled my policy without any notice and left us uninsured . This was all due to the incompetent agent we had who's attitude is totally disgusting. I am fighting tooth and nail to try and get an issue resolved and something that is very serious to me - she just does not care. more

Worst homeowners insurance ever. My inground pool came out of the ground due to raising water table. Long story short, they will not repair it due to what the engineers they subcontracted are calling earth movement and hydrostatic pressure. One part of my policy says I am covered. The claim I made says I am not. Scam company. I can't believe USAA uses them to insure military members residing in Florida. more

My experience: Terrible company. Takes your money with low ball rates, then when a storm damaged my house they fought every inch of the way to pay for damage. Every house in my neighbor hood got a new roof but mine thanks to this lousy company! more

Worse Insurance Company EVER! 4/20/2012

My home caught on fire 10/2011. This was my first fire experience in my life. This company was oh so willing to give me coverage when I applied. The moment I had the fire.......their tune changed. As with the other reviews I read..I too experienced the ""no return call"" syndrome with this company. They have the worse claims adjusters who do not have to answer to anyone! Normally, if you have a problem, there is always a supervisor to speak with. The supervisors are WORSE than the claims adjusters with returning call and resolving issues. They TOTALLY SUPPORT THEIR EMPLOYEES WHETHER THEY ARE RIGHT OR WRONG! They will patronize you and make you feel like ""you don't matter""! My fire was caused by the builder and thank God no one was home. BESIDES THEM NOT RETURNING CALLS IN A TIMELY MANNER....THEY DO ALL THEY CAN DO TO NOT PAY YOU A FAIR PRICE WHEN YOU BELONGINGS HAVE BEEN DESTROYED. They ask you to show proof of the cost you paid with receipts....and I did. Still.....they practically paid me nothing for my belongings so the items I purchased and lost in the fire....I could NEVER re-buy! They have their own cleaners that work with them who also are not fair to the customer. One of the repair company employees told me these words ""As a vendor...we have no idea what a person involved in a fire is dealing with, we just want to make sure that the repairs and replacement to your items is the least of your concerns. We are here to help""! ASI needs to adopt this attitude! A fire is a hard thing to deal with....sometimes....loss of life.....loss of belongings..displacement....etc. is enough to deal with. You don't need to deal with a company that has NO compassion towards your experience. The whole company needs to take a class in professionalism.....customer service satisfaction......and time management. Do not apply for insurance with ASI......RUN.....RUN.....RUN! more

Bad News!!!!! 11/7/2011

A pipe under my kitchen cabinets had a very small leak that I did not detect immediately. By the time I did, it had damaged cabinets, tile and flooring. ASI tried to tell me the loose tiles were ""improper installation"" even though none were messed up before the leak. They paid a minimal amount on the claim but nit enough to get all the damage repaired. I had to hire an engineer at my own expense to refute their lack of payment on teh tile even though I had moisture readings by aprofessional company showing the ewter had seeped under the tile. I also had to hire a independant insurabnce adjuster to fight with them. After almost ayear and a half of living without kitchen cabinets and on a concrete floor where exisiting flooring (tile & laminate) had been damaged and an expense to me of over $2000 to hire professionals to fight for me and a negotiation and mediation process, I finally got an additional $10K from them. The customer service rep I dealt with was also RUDE calling me a liar and that I didn't know anything about home repairs & water damage. BTW, I've owned homes since before he was born. I DO NOT recommend this company if you have any other choices. more

ASI what a scam 9/19/2011

Another scammed customer!!! It took me over a month for someone in this office to even call me back. Once i talked to someone i had a claim about my roof. Someone came out the next day and saw the damage and new we had a storm that month, well i send in everything my home inspection reports,etc quote from a roofer, than after not eing contacted for another 30 days i receive a nice letter in the mail that my policy was cancelled today due to missing handrail and a limb over my house, please keep in mind that this was from there inspection over 4 months ago, but now that i have a claim this came. what a scam if i have ever heard, so after being a customer now for five months they cancel me to keep from paying,, please beware of this company they are a scam!!!! more

Fast Response 4/12/2011

I am surprised by the negative reviews of ASI. We recently had to file a claim for water damage and the response time was amazing. There was someone here within a couple of hours of my call and they began remediation and clean-up immediately. We obtained 2 quotes for the reconstruction, chose the contractor and faxed the quote in. We had a check within 4 days to begin the work. Their insurance rates are also very competitive. I would recommend them for sure.\r more

ASI: Ripoff Central 3/3/2011

Adding to the long list of scammed customers.\r It took two weeks to finalize a quote from an Ark Royal (subsidiary of ASI) agent, when I was ready to make a deal she sent me a contract for $800 more to add coverage I did not want.. When I objected she said just scratch it off, deduct it and initial the pages, send the $950 down payment and we will reduce the insurance coverage and give you credit next month. Since my insurance was expiring that day because I wasted two weeks getting the right coverage from them I had to send the money. \r A week later some ""consultant""showed up to inspect my property, a week later I got a notice in the mail that Ark Royal was cancelling because the ""consultant"" found my house had cracks in the stair steps, my house is one story and the crack is between the sidewalk and my porch which is 4"" higher. \r I called the agent 15 times in one week and got no response so I had to get insurance somewhere else.\r Then a month later I get a check for 50% of my deposit with no explanation or breakdown. I wrote three letters, to ASI in St Pete and the agent, I called the agent and was told they have nothing to do with it that I have to deal with ASI, and after three months still have not spoken to one person that can explain where my money went, there is a constant run around and ""will take a message and have someone get back to you"" or ""I need to speak to the supervisor"" \r I thought about writing to an officer and found this page with all the complaints.\r After reading all the horror stories I give up, I am satisfied I got half my money, it is not worth it to spend the effort and the paper.\r I just hope a really big hurricane hits this state and puts them out of business. more

DO NOT waste your money on ASI, WORST and useless 10/28/2010

Worst nightmare can happen to a landlord and worst landlord insurance company chosen. I have a beautiful 4BR single house with a swimming pool built in 2007. It is rented furnished with a full house of furniture to a couple and insured by American Strategic Insurance. Last month, the community manager called and told us our house front door and garage door were broken in and the house was completed trashed. Not only the house was infested with roaches and trashed with rotten food, most the furniture which we bought brand new were stolen. one month fter the adjuster who works for ASI came to the house investigated the damage, ASI delivered the worst news to us. They will pay ZERO dollar for our damage. The damage cost us over $11000 and took our agents one month to refurbished the house. ASI's adjuster's reason for not covering the damage was it looks like normal wear and tear. It is heartbreaking to experience a landlord's worst nightmare having the house being trashed and damaged like this. Why pay the insurance hundreds of dollars and put salt on the wound. How can the adjuster and ASI sleep at night? BE AWARE! DO NOT WASTE your money on American Strategic Insurance, they will rob you blind. more

Worst HomeOwners Insurance Company in the US 9/25/2008

I am so over ASI insurance. I don't know what to do. I paid my years payments up front and In late June 08, lighting struck my house and caught it on fire. It happened on a Saturday and I could not reach a soul to make a claim untill Tuesday. I left messages on the phone and e-mail with no response untill I finally got someone on Tuesday. That was just the tip of the iceburg. In the mean time I called a wonderful company Emergancy Services and Reconstruction to start the process of cleaning and stopping further damage, while I was trying to make a claim. It took over a month to get any living expense money, thank god for family or I would have been on the street for a month. The company I hired to start the damage control is also a GC so they have been working on demo and reconstruction all this time with out being paid. They are now stopping work because ASI haven't paid them not one payment. I can't blam them for stopping work I would to in their shoes. I call the adjuster and he lies and twist his words around so much I could scream. He says the typical things ""The Check is in the Mail"" yea right, it never was and the way it seems now it never will. I HATE when people Lie to me. I just can't believe this is happening. It's bad enough my house caught on fire but now I have to fight tooth and nail to get back in it. I just bought it 3mo before the fire, my first house and the nightmare won't stop. I will never ever ever recommend ASI for anyone not even a Dog house. I hope things will get better but right now they seem bleak. I think I would go without Home owners Insurance before I use them again, I feel like I'm without now as it is. I wish they had a negitive star they don't even deserve 1/2. ASI - Useless Customer Service 8/5/2008

Every quarter I receive a notice to pay the homeowners insurance premium that I have set up to pay quarterly. I never receive a schedule in advance advising me of the amount and date payments are due. Within less than 30 days, I then receive another ""Notice Of Cancellation - Nonpayment of Premium"" with a cancellation date to be within 2 weeks of this notice. There is no telephone number on the notice for contacting their office and they are unresponsive when asking for a payment schedule through the broker. What a stupid manner for handling a customer. After the policy period is over American Strategic Insurance can go fly a kite - I don't plan to renew with them. Good riddance. Pros: Unresponsive Cons: Unresponsive more

A sorry example of ""customer service"" 11/15/2007

I contacted this company (ASI) for clarification regarding the status of my home owners policy premium schedule. They are affiliated in some way with AAA ( I am a member) and I found it difficult to sort out which entity I should speak with to get answers. It took some effort to finally get the correct office. The language in their insurance policy documents relating to premium payments leaves much to be desired in my opinion in terms of explaining the extended pay option resulting in my need to seek clarification. When I finally reached the proper office I was connected to a woman who treated me like an idiot for not understanding the company literature and policies. Her attitude was extremely rude and dismissive from the beginning of the call. She never acknowledged my request for assistance and, within a very few minutes, abruptly hung up on me. I attempted to bring this outrage to the attention of others within the two entities and was promised follow-thru that was never delivered. Eventually I obtained a list of company directors and officers thru Citysearch and copied each with a letter detailing my experience. A vice president of ASI did write me with an apology stating that the conduct of the person I spoke with constituted grounds for dismissal, and that the failure of several others to follow thru would result in retraining for all who had contact with the public. I wrote again to thank her for responding and asked for details as to what actions actually were taken regarding the employees I had the misfortune of encountering. Unfortunately, this time the vice president joined the ranks of many of her co-workers and failed to follow thru. Seems to be a corporate culture issue. I fear ever having to actually place a claim with ASI given the shoddy way I was treated just trying to get some answers. \r \r Note that at no time during these oral and written communications did I resort to strong, loud or disrepectful language. more
