Before you read this, I want you to keep in mind that I'm a VERY positive and optimistic person. I find it very easy for me to highlight the good qualities of companies while tactfully pointing out any flaws in hopes that they will read my review and attempt to fix it... APM is one of those companies that make me sit here and and scratch my head while trying to figure out why I can't find any positive things to say about this place...
I was warned to stay away from APM before I even began looking for a place to live... I heard all the complaints about the horrible conditions the apartments were in, difficult management and slow maintenance.
But foolishly, I ignored the warnings... I was there for 10 months. I experienced every possible temperature change and how the apartment handled it... During the summer, mold would grow in the cabinets from the heat. During the winter, the sad excuse for windows would literally have ice in between the panes followed by the most humid and gross feeling ever from having the heaters on. I spent many of my Saturdays off work scrubbing mold off the walls and in the closet in hopes that my clothes wouldn't get ruined. (Which btw, some of my clothes did get ruined and the rest all have a moldy smell to them still...)
The kitchen was SOOO out of date. The counters were ""new"" when we moved in...more like taken from a unit that wasn't as badly damaged... The oven and stove were in horrible condition. The fridge worked fine, it was probably only 15 years old... lol but the sink and shower were just horrible.
Management... ohhhh where do I start!? I lived in the Bel-Linda Apartments at SE 27th and Belmont... A handful of apartment complexes are managed by the same person and my manager, Tami, seemed quite friendly when I met her. I definitely noticed how disorganized she was from the beginning, but I wasn't aware of how passive aggressive she was... One day my boyfriend and I had his truck in the parking lot (with my car out on the street) and we were changing the headlight bulbs out. Tami walked by the truck with a cleaning crew and said ""Oh that truck isn't supposed to be in here"" as if I couldn't hear her... I quickly responded with a friendly tone: ""Oh hi Tami! Actually my car isn't even parked in the lot right now. He's parked in my spot. We just didn't want to be changing the bulbs on the busy street."" Tami responded with ""Oh okay, that's probably a safe idea!"" And the next morning as I was leaving work I found taped to my door a list of the parking rules with ""No vehicle maintenance allowed"" and ""One car per unit allowed in the lot"" highlighted... Really? You can't change a bulb in the parking lot? And as for the one car per unit rule, I always followed it... but for the last 2 months I lived there my annoying neighbors had THREE cars parked in the lot and Tami did nothing about it when I filed a complaint. On top of it all, she left a tow notice on my roommates new car one night because she didn't know who's it was...
By the way, fun move out tip: Did you know that if you have the smoke detectors sitting on the counter so you can change the batteries when the guy comes in to do your walk through, that you will get fined $250 per detector because it's a FEDERAL OFFENSE to ""tamper"" with the smoke detectors??? Yeah I didn't either.
They bumped our rent up to $860 and I called in and asked if it was because they were going to be upgrading the units. When the gal said ""no, there's just an annual rent raise, it was in your contract"" my roommate and I filed our 30 days notice. Come on, if you're going to overprice people for crummy apartments, maybe consider fixing them up inside? Rather than continuing to paint over the gross outside color with another gross color.
It'll be worth it for you to add 5-10 minutes to your commute to go with that other apartment complex that looks way nicer and is only a couple bucks more. Don't waste your time with this company.
