American Pro Moving & Storage

This company has lots and lots of hidden costs. They require you to purchase insurance to make sure they don't destroy your house when they are moving your items. But they are not up front with what the insurance purchase covers. In response to my inquiry..the owner responded that the insurance should be bought to cover ""everything"". That must have included the unprofessional movers putting holes in the wall and dents in the wood floors. They made significant damage to my mother's home, promised to fix it and then informed her that she should have purchased insurance so she could have the damage repaired. Be very careful if you choose to make the mistake of hiring these movers. They also try to take advantage of senior citizens with added charges on delivery. Thank goodness she had good friends there with her when they arrived. Sneaky..unprofessional and unreliable. Check out the complaints against them at the Better Business Bureau... I wish we would have! more

My mother contracted with this company to have some large and bulky items moved to her out-of-state home. She paid a $200 deposit - and then an additional $700+ to have the items moved. When the movers came to take the items, they caused significant damage to the drywall and floors. \r \r The items were not delivered on the date promised - when my mom called the company, they indicated that they would deliver it the next day - it was finally delivered two days later.\r When the movers arrived, they refused to take the items from the truck until she paid them an additional $240 IN CASH.\r Now she is trying to get them to pay for the damage to the drywall and floor in her Chicago-area home and they have told her that she should have purchased the ""insurance"" beforehand which was never offered to her. \r \r These people took advantage of my mom and extorted money from her. DON""T TRUST THEM! more

The moving supervisor oversaw the entire process and the crew was extremely careful with my stuff. They were very efficient, working non-stop from start to finish. When we needed an extra man, the supervisor called and he arrived immediately. All-in-all, it couldn't have been a better experience more

They are horrible movers. They took an hour and a half longer on this move than the other 2 moves we made with the same stuff except we had a stove and fridge the first 2 times. The movers kept disappearing during the loading and unloading of the truck. They broke many things that were properly boxed. Some of these same things were packed from the original moves and were in perfect order before this move. One of the movers stood on my kitchen table to lift things to the second floor. He had on his street shoes. Nothing was between his street shoes and my kitchen table. I do not stand on my kitchen table and I do not expect anyone to stand on my kitchen table especially when there are available boxes to use to stand on. It took them 2.5 hours to load the truck and 2 hours to unload the truck. My husband and I helped unload the truck. They left the board and rails to the waterbed at the original apartment. My husband and I had to drive them over to the new place. Fortunately the new place is less than 10 minutes away. I did not get compensation for the broken items because money will not replace my stereo, an antique light cover 5 broken video takes, and and frame to a famous painting. To name a few things that were broken. My desk is chipped, my husbands desk is chipped, my desk chair does not recline, my husbands desk chair does not recline. That is the short list. I did not give them a tip I figured they had gotten enough money from the move. I did not like having to fill out the evaluation report before unpacking my stuff. HORRIBLE COMPANY! Simply horrible. It would be better to hire a chimp and two gorillas. I paid close to $600 for this horrendous move. Pros: Not a one! Cons: Everything more

My family moved from Illinois to California. Every aspect of the move was not only highly professional, but pleasant as well. The agent who came out to do the estimate gave lots of very good advice. The young men who packed, and later the crew who loaded, all treated our belongings carefully and professionally. The driver touched bases with me from time to time during the long drive, to let me know where he was and when he anticipated arriving to the new house. Unfortunately on such a big move some things do go wrong. One item went missing and only 1 item was broken. Once reported, the claims people contacted us immediately, sent inspectors out within days of contacting us, and sent us a check for the items claimed within a week of the inspectors' report. We've moved extensively over the past 22 years, and this was one of the best moves we've experienced. My wife and I were very nervous about using American Pro Moving for our recent move because after scheduling our move we started looking up more about the company on various websites and although there were plenty of good reviews, there were really bad one here and there so we got discouraged. I ended up calling American Pro and asking my salesman Jeff why there were these really bad reviews on here and if something like these horror stories could happen to me. Jeff was great in answering my questions and said that even though they have hundreds of successful moves every month that more often than not, the person who had the bad experience is going to post something about it rather than the person who had a good one. So he said to let them do the move and afterwards if my experience was good to do him a favor and tell future customers that they really are a good company. I can understand that not all of their moves go perfect. They do so many that sometimes things can probably go wrong but when the movers showed up and began packing my belongings, I knew there was no way these things were going to break in transit. When they showed up at my new home, everything was still in one piece and I was so glad to have found the right company. So, if you are on edge and you don't know for sure if American Pro is right for you, just try your best to trust that they actually know what they are doing. \r Great job guys! Thank you! more
