Editorial review from Citysearch 12/18/2013

Hired this company to do a kitchen remodel. The experience was a nightmare. Delays, overcharges, misleading product descriptions, rude and random contractors (yes, he contracts the work out) and a very low standard of work quality. You have been warned. more

Steve the Friendly Helpful Decorator 12/13/2011

I have worked with this co., ADO, and it's very pleasant and professional owner, Steve, for many years. My experience has always been fully satisfied and in the occasional circumstance where goods were factory delivered not to my expectations, a simple phone call and timely inspection by ADO installers and/or Steve, corrected the problem. ADO has a great product line and also seems to delight in showing customers money saving alternatives. This is a good co. to work with is all I can say. more

Tip: Personal review to help customers... 12/4/2011

Buyer reviews are an important way for consumers to get a clue about businesses before investing their money in important and sometimes life changing purchases. I have read from the other reviews that American Decorating Outlet has over $12,000,000 in sales. I personally know the owner, his wife, and have enjoyed visiting the showroom as a friend on many occasions. It is warm, inviting, and inspiring. As a single dad I have limited resources, and American Decorating often gives me ideas and free advice. I have witnessed transactions in the store (showroom) and see happy faces. My own experiences are the same (by the way, I've had tile, flooring, and kitchen work done). I believe most customers won't take the time to review businesses, which is the reason for my writing this. I felt sick to read the mean reviews that are clearly not by customers. ADO is established here on the West Coast. I have met people that tell me how happy they are, and that the service and price made the biggest difference. People are human and mistakes can happen, however I believe this company makes good when mistakes happen. Sometimes this means fixing something internally... A company must hire and contract with personnel that have a healthy spirit; work ethics, integrity, and character must reflect the company. Plus, skills must be sufficient to satisfy customers' quality needs. It's a balancing act to protect the consumer, the employe, and the business itself. I feel for the guy that lost a job, but he/she must deal with their loss and grief, not strike out in response.. this is called cyber-bullying. Hope this helps shed light on ADO and the various reviews posted by disgruntled ex-employees or contractors. Please comment and ask questions if needed. Michael more

Conflicting Info Here 10/31/2011

After having several different companies give me estimates for my kitchen, I had narrowed it down to 2 with American Decorating being one. This was solely based on their sales rep. Jeff, whom I was very comfortable with and he seemed to go over everything in great detail. After going to this website and seeing the reviews listed here, I was very concerned. Jeff again went over many things and again I felt very comfortable. Decided to choose American and now that everything has been completed, I could not be happier. If my wife is thrilled, than I am thrilled. My father was a good woodworker back in the day... he came to visit this past weekend and agreed that the cabinetry and installation looks great. Now, I have to look back on the other nasty revies on here and scratch my head. Are they embellishing, pissed off ex-employees....You cannot please EVERY single customer every time. I never write reviews like this, but Jeff asked me to since I was so concerned at the beginning and the end result was a very smooth installation. You can expect a 2 week process once the cabinets come in. This is to be expected. more

Great company, We are pleased as well we recommend America 10/14/2011

We were at a Home show 4 months ago and found Steve, His staff, and installers were gracious and caring, I changed my mind several times but they stuck with me and created a beautiful kitchen. My long time friends recommended Steve. So Please note his competition may be writing stories as I have read, Nearly the opposite of our experience It is obvious some person calling flamomo12 has issues. We well highly recommend American Decorating & Granite Pro more

RUN! DONT USE! 10/12/2011

HORRIFIC! Is all I can say. RUDE and condecending sales people and owner. DO NOT be swayed by the smooth talkers and notice that the owner and his friend are the ONLY 2 good reviews on here, look at the names. WOW! They take FOREVER and even when given a deadline have failed miserably to meet it. I think they must be struggling financially because there is absurd wait for simple items that are ""on order""..... really?! maybe they are behind on their bills thats why things aren't delivered in a timely manner. I have been argued with and told the the owner is right not the customer. They are never prepared and they will use your items found in your home to do do the installations. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!! Should be less than a 1 star. more

Great company great folks 9/26/2011

Again a great job I saved thousands. I was so pleased with my flooring and cabinetry. Had my daughter not told me about Steve I would not have know to get there estimate. I had bids from the Depot and lowes, as well two specialty stores. I know what I wanted. I am know sending a copy of this letter to the Herald tribune to say Great Business Deserve good words. I have read reviews about Kitchen and Granite companies some good and some bad, I am happy that a company Like American Decorating Outlet is here. They came back and did extra work as per my request at very good prices too. more

Beware 8/16/2011

This is one of the worst managed companies we have come across. The firm, among a number of related ones, is owned/managed by Steven Sanford. The estimates are always too low, the costs are higher and delays are numerous. The following is a list of findings based on 2011 kitchen jobs. 1) An inordinate amount of time is spent on design with the owner playing with the design software and developing a design that he likes rather than what the customer wants. 2) If you order a cabinet from a certain manufacturer, you will get the cheapest version. In addition, cabinets smaller than the kitchen space would allow are likely to be installed and the extra space covered by fillers because fillers are cheaper. 3) Most work is sub-contracted out and you never know who will show up to do your work. 4) You may have to pay for dumping fees. None of these costs are mentioned at the contract signing. Call Habitat for Humanity who will demo a kitchen for re-use at no charge. 5) The firm?s subs are always doing multiple jobs and may be pulled off of your job at any time. 6) Ordering is sloppy. Items delivered may be of the wrong colour, unnecessary for the project or needed items may not be delivered at all. Multiple delivery times are common. This is one reason subs are pulled off of jobs to go elsewhere ? they run out of material. This seriously impacts the schedule and causes serious delays especially if both husband and wife work and cannot take a full day off to watch an installer work half a day. 7) Information provided to the customer is sketchy at best. The attitude of the owner is that the customer is not involved in decision-making and need not be concerned with details. This seriously affects the overall look of the kitchen. 8) The tendency of the owner is to talk down to customers. 9) Billing is highly front-loaded. That is, a large deposit is requested at signing and the majority of the remaining balance is due on delivery of materials. Delivery may take weeks. The installer may not show up for days. No one checks if the items, usually delivered at the firm, are correct when delivered to the home. There is therefore very little of the total cost left to pay even before the project starts. This means there is virtually no leverage for the customer in dealing with the firm in case the project is not on schedule or there are quality concerns. The owner is an extreme micro manager who attempts to run multiple companies simultaneously: kitchen cabinets, flooring, granite counter tops, window treatments and general remodeling. He loves to argue and will spend hours on the phone trying to convince a dissatisfied customer that the customer is wrong and the owner is right. Communication up and down the chain of command is poor. Supervision is weak. If you are attracted only by price (and there may be better kitchen cabinet providers at the same or lower cost), are new to kitchen remodeling and can take a very high level of stress, go to other firms firs more

OMG! 5/10/2011

OMG! This guy is hilarious. I can venture to guess, the owner of this company suggests that his helpers, his employees and himself write any good reviews out there. This guy is a ""slippery"" salesman in my own personal opinion and experience. The only good review here was posted by Raul, whom I believe helps Steve, the owner out from time to time. If you are shopping solely based on price, then this company might be for you. Keep in mind, typically you get what you pay for.\r In my personal experience, they have no idea what customer service is. If you want quality and a company whom will stand behind their work without all the Bull, then choose someone else. Don't say I didn't tell you so. P.S. After doing research on this guy, he'll claim that all of these bad reviews are from his competitors. Guess what Steve? Nobody can compete with your poor customer service and B.S....NOBODY! more

Great Customer Service and very good prices 5/9/2011

I met Steve at the Bradenton Home Show and I was really amazed how fast he managed to made my house a home. Not only in the Window Treatments Isabel and Jeff did a great job , but also Steve made my Kitchen and Bathrooms look beautiful. Thank you Steve and your team for your great work. more

Run from this guy as fast as possible 4/19/2011

Steve, owner is a joke! He does come across as a good salesman, I will give him that. He reminds me of the used car salesman. He has changed company names a bunch of times.....hmmmm, I wonder why? Also, you may find some good reviews elsewhere that probably were written by himself. Notice the posting dates were all on the same day....again, Hmmmm? He subs all of his work out and has no control of what he or his subs do. If you love headaches, wondering when the job will be finished, who will show up on the job, which contractor he will use that day, then go with him. If you like great service and a job well done, and someone that will back their work, then pay a little bit more, because it will be worth it....TRUST ME. Obviously you must care enough to read this, so listen to my advice now and call other people. Ask other contractors when you get bids, they will all agree. more

Please Do Not Use This Man 4/6/2011

WOW, it would take pages and pages to discribe how horrible of an experiance we had with Steve and American Decorating. Up front it all sounded great and at a good price, but getting my kitchen completed is an ongoing nightmare. My job was garenteed to be completed in a week and it has been MONTHS. Cabinet installer was absolutly the worst. Bad cuts, unlevel, nicks, show up for only an hour to keep me happy. On and On... I have invested over 10000 into kitchen and now I am going to have to hire (at my own expense) someone to finish and he is demanding that I still pay him. After snooping around, I have descovered that he owes a lot of people(contractors) money and that is why we were told to pay them directly. This man should be out of business so he cant do this to other people. There are many others out there that have been through this with steve acording to the reviews, I just wish I had a way of tracking them down because i'm sure this will go to court sadly. Please use someone else...You will end up in court with an unfinished Kitchen and Att's fees more

Terrible installation service for window treatments 1/8/2009

American decorating Outlet is not the place I would recommend for installation of window treatments. I just recently purchased a home in Florida and was looking for good window treatments. American Decorating seemed like a good place. Unfortunately, my experience with them has been less than wonderful. First of all, they took my debit card number and said they would charge it after they put in the window treatments. They ended up debiting the card right away. They also told me that all the blinds, including my plantation shutters would be available to install all on the same day. 2 weeks after I ordered my blinds, they installed all of them but one pair of blinds (which I'm pretty sure they forgot to order) and the plantation shutters. They were very specific on my shutters and said they would come at the same time because I had told them that another place could get them for me at the same time. Then, when they didn't install the shutters, they told me they didn't mean to give me the wrong idea that it would take 4-6 weeks more to get the shutters.\r Also, they can never install on the times they say they will. They called me the day they wanted to install the treatments and said they would come in the afternoon, I had an appointment so I asked if they would come a different day or if they would come in the morning. They agreed to come in the morning but then didn't show up until the afternoon stating that they didn't know they were supposed to come early. This happened twice, once when they installed the first set of blinds and then when they installed the next set. It's been 2 months and they still don't have my plantation shutters. Definitely would not recommend if you have any sort of schedule or if you want your window treatments in a timely manner. Pros: Product is at a reasonable price Cons: Bad installation service more
