farewell 8/4/2011

I would like to take this opportunity to say goodbye to our current staff, patients and business associates I have either helped care for or talked to one the phone. In early December of 2010 we were bought out by First Med Inc out of Virginia and North Carolina. Everyone was assured that our jobs were secure and they do not let people go. They would be helping the company grow by leaps and bounds, they wanted their foot in the door in Ohio and with our experience and location in the state we would be the center hub. what a crock! we learned in early July that all the office personnel would be losing our jobs. Most of us has been with American 12 to 25 years, we have the experience, professionalism, and knowledge of our jobs, our patients and our business customers to make a difference. That is no concern to them, they are moving all our jobs to Portsmouth Ohio where they purchased Life Ambulance. I'm not sure this is a good choice for a central hub in Ohio but they do. Things are going to change greatly for our customers and I believe American will cease to exist as the name will change also. It has been a pleasure to talk to the patients or their family over the years our business customers like Sycamore/Kettering, Hospice, Vitas Hospice, Cincinnati Veterans Hospital and the many nursing homes we serviced. Thank you for putting your trust in American but i not sure it will be the same with First Med. To all our former and current employees I will miss seeing you everyday and helping you as I did in each of my jobs over the last 20 years. We have laughed, cried , embarrassed and taunted each other and you will be remembered. I appreciate everyone and to my office co workers also losing their jobs I love you and will miss you lots. Interesting 1/11/2011

I notice the employee and spouse of the employee are kissing up to the company, but all the other ratings say otherwise. Same with this one, my neighbor is 97 and she used their service twice . She asked if I would post a review after she came home with a huge bruise on her arm where the back door of the van had hit her. more

my feelings 10/11/2010

My mother was the patient that was killed in the accident back in Oct of 2009. From what I understood from the police reports was that there was boxes in the road, and the driver swerved to miss them hitting the wall. I am trying to move on with things, and I have forgiven Ms Shock, at least as much as I can at the moment. There was nothing ever mentioned about her texting while driving, and if she was, there is nothing that can be done about it now. Everyone needs to move on from that tragic accident and learn from it. more

In Regard to what what posted by ""The truth be told"" I was almost believing this right up to the point of when the Slander started. It is wise to leave out that kind of pointless dialogue when attempting to make a valid point, But I still give you credit for trying... I think that any company that is under a Government Contract thinks they have a free ride to milk all the $$$ that they can get out of our beloved Tax Dollars. It is a common thing these days... On the positive note about American, I know several Vets that are picked up by them and they have nothing but good things to say about how they are treated and respected.... any company that treats our Vets with the care and dignity that they deserve is alright in my book.... I could be wrong here but it seems like this person is fishing for a comment that explains why he or she might have been let go for their lack of knowledge.... most people this smart are normally the ones running the company. I hope this person finds a job more suited to his needs and not be so Over Qualified in a non- HS Graduate level position... Good Luck in your new employment.... Pros: Somewhat believable. Cons: Un-Profound Slander more

Just my 2 cents...... 7/23/2010

I am an employee/paramedic at American Ambulance. I've been in EMS, both public and private, for 20+ years. All I can say about the ""Liar's Cheat's and Embezzeler's"" post is ""Thank God that person is no longer at American."" To think that someone obviously without compassion and with such anger was providing care to the sick and injured. I would not want you to care for my loved ones!!! I needed the services of an ambulance in May of 2009, the call I made was NOT to 911 (sorry Dayton, nothing personal) but to the company I work for: American Ambulance. The care I received was superb, second to none. (Thanks Nick and Mark). Over the years I have seen Dan and Ken, as well as the rest of the management team work hard to keep people at work during these tough times. Instead of laying off when work was slow they found other opportunities to keep their employees on the job. During times of personal crisis they have stood by, and stood behind their employees. I have seen employees leave to work elsewhere, and return, prodigal sons and daughters, glad to be back in our little fold. Who ever you are, shame on you for being a coward. It's easy to sit at a keyboard and be vindictive and mean when you won't sign your name. I'm sorry you're so bitter and angry, those emotions won't take you far in this field or in life. Success in this profession takes courage, integrity and compassion, perhaps you had those qualities once, it is my hope for you that you find them again. Good luck. Leah Conrad EMT-P Pros: Small caring company. more

Are you wanting a pat on the back or something? 7/23/2010

I am the wife of a longtime employee of American Ambulance and like any other business they have their pros and cons.....but like I said, its a busniess. To me, the person that wrote the review and them being liars and embezzlers sounds like a disgruntled ex-employee who thinks the world owes them something. And yes, most ""layman"" as you call them can single out the symptoms of a stroke, let me ask you this......what could a Paramedic do different than what you as a Basic did other than maybe start a line and throw them on a monitor? Paramedics are saved for actual emergency calls in most cases, which makes nothing but sense to me. And as I said in the headline, do you want a pat on the back or an at-a-boy for doing your job?? You evendently have an axe to grind, but are to much of a coward to leave your name. Its easy to sit there and complain about someone or something and not leave your name or anything, and as a employee of Kettering Medical Center also I find your comments to be incredibly rude and uneducated. You sound as if you have a huge chip on your shoulder.. My husband was unfortunatly the medic in the back of that ambulance when that terrible accident occured, and the owners, Dan Murray, and Ken Miller, went above and beyond when it came to helping my husband and I thru a very scary time in our lives. Amberican is a reputible company and provides quality service, its as easy as that. Pros: Almost 30 years of business...must be doing something right! Cons: It is a business like any other business.... more

Liar's Cheat's and Embezzeler's 7/6/2010

American ambulance symbolizes capitalism at it's worst they use out dated technology on your loved one's because the owners {Ken Miller and Dan Murray} Want to save money for their retirement and lifestyles. The employ too few people to keep up with the ever increasing demands caused by the Caresource Provide-a-ride contract and the Hospice and Kettering Medical center demands. They constantly blow off real medical emergencies because they don't want to deal with the paperwork. Their dispatch staff is so poorly trained that they can't recognize the symptoms of a simple stroke. They have been known to send the farthest crew from a real emergency just so they can keep a paramedic crew open for hospital to hospital transports. In October of 09 Crew member Andrea Shock wrecked killing a patient because she was texting while driving. How would I know this ....because I was in the Ambulance with the person she was texting. When I brought this to the attention of the owners they covered it up. They will not take you as a patient unless your insurance covers you or you are on a contract so if you are injured don't expect them to stop to help you, They are trained not to. My partner and I once stopped at an auto accident and got in trouble for giving patient care because quote ""Now that is time and manpower we will not get paid for because they didn't have insurance."" An elderly gentleman at a centerville nursing home was having stroke symptoms and my partner and I got sent. I recognized the symptoms as any layman should be able to, and made the judgement call to run lights and sirens. My call was correct the man was having a stroke the hospital confirmed it and was glad we got to him in time. We were at the chipotle near UD he was 15 miles away, normal drive time 30 to 40 minutes we made it in 12. there was a paramedic crew 10 minutes away normal drive time, but dispatch is trained to not use the medic crews if they don't get requested. Now did my partner and I get a good job? a nice work? a way to know your symptoms? NO we got a write up for running lights and sirens when it wasn't a contract run. This company gives Emergency medical and Medical transport a bad name. If you hate your loved ones use American if you love them use anyone else. This employer also engages in the illegal practice of taking workers money for Aflac and then never gives it to Aflac they just use it to fund Dan Murray's many vacations with Virginia Henderson and Ken Miller's expensive tastes in wine and cars. Caresource, Provide- A - Ride, Medicare, Hospice of Dayton, and Kettering Medical network RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!! They will take your reputation down with them. Pros: They kiss hospice and caresources asses to get money Cons: They employ and protect murderer's and poorly trained emt's more
