My BMW 328i was sideswiped and that caused a lot of damage on my passenger door. After being recommended by my friends to go to Amatos, I called them and made an appointment within 5 minutes. Once I showed up, they checked out my vehicle and started working on an estimate right away. And then I left my car with them, and they even took me to the nearest rental car station.\r \r They finished my car very quickly, and I couldn't be happier with the turn out. They did a great job and were very helpful throughout the entire process. \r A+ Best in San Diego\r \r \r more

My Mercedes S500 was parked in the mall parking lot and was hit in the rear and had extensive damage. \r \r This repair took over a month as it went back and forth with the insurance company and with ordering parts. I don't think it would have been any faster at another body shop and I doubt I would have received the same quality of work. They were good at keeping me informed on the progress. They did an excellent job in the repair by returning my vehicle to me looking incredibly great and completely detailed. I recommend them 100%!\r more

Amatos Auto Body is hands down the best Collision Repair Facility in San Diego hands down. Being in the performance car business for 8+ years, I have seen my fair share of good and bad work over the years. And it is extremely difficult to find a trustworthy auto body repair facility. \r \r I had an unfortunate at fault accident where my Mitsubishi Evolution 9 SE hit a chain link fence. Every panel on my entire car was deeply scratched and unfortunately needed to be repainted. After making a claim with my insurance provider, I called Amatos Auto Body and asked if I could have my car sent over.\r \r Once my Insurance provider assessed the damage of my car, I was put into the very welcoming hands of the Amatos staff. There facility is top notch, and made me feel good about leaving my car with them. Since this was the first accident that I had ever been in, I was unsure of how this entire process worked. Alicia was more than helpful and laid out the entire process. I left Amatos that day with complete confidence in their operation. \r \r Amatos updated me on my car weekly with the arrival of parts ordering and progress status. Within a very short amount of time, I received the phone call saying ""Your car is good as new, and ready for pickup!"". After that, I rushed over to the shop, and my jaw dropped when I saw my car. It looked even better than it did when it came off of the showroom floor. They did an A+++ job from start to finish, and I couldn't be happier. \r \r Their customer service, hospitality, professionalism, and quality of work is top notch. They are the best Auto Body Shop in San Diego hands down, and I would recommend them to anybody.\r \r There is a reason they are Factory Certified by Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Mercedes, Porsche, and Volkswagen. more

Our experience with Amatos was like something out of a bad movie – the kind of story you think will never happen to you. We were involved in a low speed fender bender with our lotus. We had never had any body work done on the car, so I began calling around to get referrals for a place that might be the best to fix it – the car is made of bonded aluminum and fiberglass, as well as being finicky and British. The local lotus dealer referred us to Amatos, and we made it there just before they closed on Friday. The management all seemed friendly and we signed the authorization to let them inspect the vehicle. That was the last bit of friendliness that I felt from their management. About a week later I was sent the repair estimate as it was passed to my insurance, and was shocked to put it mildly. There were parts on the estimate that I felt sustained no damage at all, but my biggest concern was the parts prices listed. I began to call around to find out what prices I could obtain for the same parts. I was able to find most of the high dollar parts at substantially less price than on the quote. I then went down to Amatos to let them know I would be providing some of the parts, and to sign the repair authorization. I was quickly referred to a manager, who in my opinion was instantly mad at the proposition that I was going to provide the parts. I was informed that they would have to review with other management if this was allowable. I was taken aback by the change in reception from my first contact with them. The next morning I received a call from the lead manager, who was also not pleasant to speak with. He let me know that I could not provide the parts because Amatos provides a warranty on the parts it provides. I replied that all of the parts I purchased already came with a warranty from their manufacturer, so I did not need Amatos to warranty them as well. At this point, the manager became more angry in my opinion, and told me that these types of jobs do not have a high profit margin for them, and if I did not let them provide all of the parts they would not work on my vehicle and I would have to go somewhere else. I was then sent a bill for over $1,000 for the estimate Amatos provided, which had to be paid before my car would be released back to me to take to another shop. I have never been thrown out of a business before, so I was quite livid at this point and started to go thru the estimate in more detail. For reference the car was struck at low speed in the left front wheel, and damage was limited to that immediate vicinity. Amongst the labor charges were line items for the right rear view mirror, the right door, the right door lock, and other items on the opposite side from the crash! None of these would need to be touched to repair the damage in my opinion, as the front of the car comes off with all of those still in place. There were several line items for “fenders” – a lotus has no fenders. The entire front of the car is one piece of fiberglass, and there was already a separate line item for that. The best item I found was “re-program memory functions.” I am assuming this was to be done to me once I got the final bill, as a lotus has nothing electronic that can be “re-programmed” (most do not even come with a radio). In my opinion I cannot imagine a worse experience at an auto body shop. more

Best Shop in San Diego 4/13/2011

I recently got into a pretty bad accident in my brand new Camry. I was devastated and was definitely not looking forward to the process of dealing with insurance and body shops that was ahead of me. My friend recommended Amato's Auto Body to me because her car was recently there and she was completely satisfied with the service she received. I called my insurance and they told me to take my car to several different places. I went ahead and called Amato's anyways, and they informed me that insurance companies try to steer you in their own direction to benefit themselves, but by law, people can take their cars wherever they want to. I brought my car in there for an estimate, and a few days later, I dropped off my car. Throughout the entire time, they called me to let me know the status on how far along it was. I was so pleased with the fact that I was in the loop the entire time. When I got my car back, it looked brand new again! I was especially excited to see that they matched the color perfectly! Nobody would ever be able to tell that I previously crashed my car. Paul Amato cares a lot about his customers & has created a body shop that definitely does the best work in San Diego, not to mention they even gave me a gift when I picked up my car :) I would recommend this shop to anyone who wants to make the best out of a situation that is not so great. more

Not as good as everyone says 6/15/2010

I just want to say the work performed on my 2003 Bentley was not up to par. They worked on the right rear (I'm sure they remember as it's a rather rare vehicle). The repaired spot has paint flaws. Further, my friend took a paint gauge to it and found a large amount of filler on the repaired area (which is not a good thing). Poor quality repairs. It's not as good as everyone says. Cons: Poor Quality more

Worst customer Service 12/10/2009

The head mechanic has a real attitude, he made me get my own parts and screamed down the phone at me when I called back because I was confused at what i needed to order. There a lot of other business' out there that treat their customers with respect ..I won't be recommending these guys to anyone I know. Cons: rude! more

Crappy customer service 9/28/2007

I wish I could give this shop negative stars. By far the worst service I've experienced in a long time. I will never bring my vehicle here and will tell everyone I know not to bring their vehicle here. more
