If you think Salvatore's is the only place serving good italian food, then I'm sure you will overlook the horrible service here. There was not one employee at this establishment ...

My favorite Italian Food 5/27/2011

My absolute favorite for italian food when I am in Atlanta. I have dined here as a couple and as part of a party of 60. Everytime the food is fantastic and the service superb. I would recommend this place to anyone. If there was to be a downside, I would say that the parking is limited, so get there early. more

Eat here to be treated like dirt 9/27/2010

After calling 30 minutes ahead and then waiting in person for 90 minutes (and watching people that arrived AFTER us get seated BEFORE us), I asked the hostess nicely if we could push 2 tables together. She said she would ask. A few minutes later the manager/owner came over and asked if I had a problem. I said that we had arrived BEFORE the party of 6 that had just been seated and he said that our party of 8 (6 adults and 2 small children) could not fit at that table. I said that we would be happy to “squeeze in” since the only difference was 2 small children and since we had been waiting so long. He said “No, we cannot do that” in a rather belligerent tone. I said okay then would it be possible to push 2 empty tables (for 4) together and he flatly refused stating that he “runs this restaurant - not me!” I was absolutely flabbergasted! To be treated like that as a patron in a supposedly fine dining establishment is completely shocking to say the least. I don’t know why anyone would spend their money in a place that treats their customers with such disrespect. With this guy in the kitchen its caveat emptor for your entrée if he’s in a bad mood or you ask a simple question about getting seated. Check out some other reviews and you’ll see what I mean about this guy… more

Great Food 2/16/2009

Bad parking but have always been lucky. The food is great. Very friendly family run business. The bar crown is like ""Cheers"". Pros: Food Cons: Parking more

Great Italian Food. 7/10/2008

My experience at Amalfi Italian Restaurant was bitter sweet. Food was excellent. Our greeting was rude.\r Over-all great food. Clean, and comfortable. Pros: Good food Cons: Unfriendly service more

New name! Same great place!! 4/22/2008

My husband (a NY Italian) and I moved to GA 3 years ago and decided to try Salvatore's 'cause it's my husband's middle name. The outside is definately deceving, and unless looking for it you'll drive right by. But, it is so worth it!!! We sat at the bar where Salvatore happened to be bartending that night. He was engaging and hospitable to two new Geogians. The food was great!! Nothing fancy, just great authentic Italian. Reminds us of our favorite place back in NY. Three years later, we still go back and Salvatore and his family (literally) still take great care of us. As for the review titled ""Nasty"", this is a family owned place, not a ""coporate"" restaurant, they do not have the ""Board"" breathing down their necks. They'll treat you the way you treat them. Everyone I've ever brought there has been treated fantastically and like family!! Pros: Authentic Italian Cons: Parking more

Just okay. Used to be better. 9/15/2007

We took our parents here when they were in town. We had not been in a couple of years.\r The food was good but not outstanding as I had remembered it. We will choose someplace else to show off an Atlanta restaurant.\r Pros: Okay Italian. Cons: Just okay Italian. more

NAME CHANGED TO AMALFI 8/16/2007

First thing to note, Salvatore has changed the name to Amalfi, so the sign is a little confusing. But the food hasn't change apparently. My wife and I are Italian food fanatics and I study the art of it myself. This is the closest to authentic I have tasted anywhere in the South.\r \r You cannot come here without getting the Mozarella starter, it is so amazing. I recommend the veal in the meat dishes, nice scallipone cuts cooked to perfection.\r \r The decor and atmosphere are nothing to write home about and the service is average, the place looks like a Subway from the outside. But get over it. This is hands down the best Italian food in Atlanta.\r \r Cannot recommend it highly enough! Pros: Food, Value Cons: Decor, Parking more

Better than being in Italy 5/4/2007

This is my favorite Italian restaurant, bar none. When you walk in, it feels as if you're returning to a familiar family kitchen filled with all of your (favorite) relatives for a celebration centered around food, drinks and laughter. Family owned and operated by 3 generations of pure Italian heritage, this restaurant is a must on your list of new places to try. \r First time suggestions: Start out sharing the spicy calamari and/or the caprese salad followed by the gnocci for your main entree. Finish up with a cappuccino and the ricotta cheesecake. You'll be full, guaranteed... but it's worth every calorie. Pros: Great atmosphere, unpretentious, friendly Cons: Location more

Eat here...Got it? 9/7/2006

Place looks like a total dump on the outside and not real nice inside either...But the food is very good... Pros: Good food, decent price, decent service Cons: From the outside looks like a crak house...Could use and update inside too... more

Mama's in the kitchen and she's the best 8/16/2006

AWESOME!!! Recently remodeled to remind you of a real Italian restaurant. The food is to die for, as well as, the after dinner martini's. Get there early on the weekends or be prepared to wait. Parking is limited. Be ready for a taste of Italy that you can not get anywhere else in this country. Pros: Mama's Cooking Cons: Parking more

Salvatore's is NASTY 7/20/2006

I have been to this restaurant many times and had a wonderful experience. The last visit was not so wonderful. Salvatore himself showed us to our table (it was early; they were not crowded) and insisted we sit in chairs facing the wall! I said I would like to sit in the other chair looking out on the room, and he blew up. My husband said ""I suppose you don't care if we stay or leave"", and Salvatore said ""I don't care"". We left...and will never be back! Pros: Good food Cons: Rudest more

Worth the drive! 9/3/2005

I was curious about this restaurant after reading the reviews posted here. I invited a group of friends with us. It was about a 45 minutue drive for us. Decided to arrived 15 minutes before the restaurant opened. It's one of those type restaurants that you would drive by a million times and not think twice about stopping to try. We had great service & the quality Italian food exceeded my expectations! From the to die-for Calamari to the Tiramsu desert, it was outstanding. Yes, even though it was raining outside, there was a line out the door waiting to get in. The ""secret"" to this restaurant is to get there early! Pros: Excellent Italian, quality food, great value Cons: Little Parking more

The Best 8/8/2005

I've read the reviews of others and can't believe it! Each and every time I go to Salvatore's, I'm treated like family. So you might have to wait, big deal, get over yourself, it's obviously busy for a reason - it's worth it! What about those big name restaurants that don't take reservations, do you cry when you're minutes away and call ahead to see what the wait is and when you arrive it's different? Geez! I've always received great service, from the very first time I dined here 4 years ago. The food is excellent and it's obvious by the packed parking lot that some folks don't mind the wait, because it's worth it! The staff is friendly, the food is beyond excellent (homemade Cheesecake too!) and I'm proud to say it is MY favorite restaurant. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, People Cons: Small parking lot more

Is good food enough to override horrible service? 7/29/2005

If you think Salvatore's is the only place serving good italian food, then I'm sure you will overlook the horrible service here. There was not one employee at this establishment who could be described as friendly and/or courteous. I KNOW there are other italian restaurants as good or better who know how to treat their customers. I will spend my money at these other restaurants and I suggest you do the same. Pros: food Cons: noise, unpleasant staff more

Awesome - and busy because of it! 7/28/2005

The food here is great - period. True, home cooked Italian. Those who complain about the attitude have obviously never eaten in Italy (or Boston, for that matter!) The place is BUSY, folks - you can't always get a table, and they can't always suffer your whims, but man, do they make up for it with the food! The best gnocchi I have had, great sausage, superb home made sauces, in a very authentic small town Italian setting (read loud, crowded, a little dusty, but friendly!) A real neighborhood joint! Pros: Great food, authentic feel, Great food! Cons: poor parking set-up, often loud/crowded, smokey bar more

The Best 3/24/2005

Moving down to GA from NYC I was faced with quite a challenge. Finding good Italian food. It took me two years to find a place that the sauce wasnt made from a can. The search is over, I have finally found the place that I can call home. Hands down the best Italian food in all of GA so stay away from all those so called Italian chain restaurants and ""fugget"" about it. Salvatore is Italian. more

Michele 10/7/2004

As a first generation Italian-American from NYC I feel I am able to rate Salvatore's realistically. This is as authentic as Italian (Neopolitan) cooking gets. They offer dishes, both on and off the menu, that my Mother (originally from Naples, Italy) made, which are the closest thing to home made that I have found in the Atlanta area. ""Buono Appetito""! Pros: Quality of food, Authentic dishes, "Anna" the chef more

Extremely BAD service 9/1/2004

Last weekend I tried to bring my family a a few friends to this place. We called when we were within 7 minutes of the restaurant and asked what the wait time was. We were told 15 minutes. We got to the place and then were told it would be over 45 minutes to seat us. I explained we had just called (since they didnt take reservations) and were told the wait was only 15 minutes. The hostess didnt care and told us the wait was over 45 minutes. The owner came out and we told him what happened and he didnt care either. Their attitude was they had more business than they needed. They didnt care what they said on the phone. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE Pros: good location Cons: , uncaring management, incorrect information more

Being Italian I feel qualified 8/11/2003

The sauce was like my Aunt Julia made, I always order items that have to be made fresh , not like some of the Others on the list that precook pasta and put it in a bag and refrigerate and drop the bag in boiling water to heat it up. Salads are fresh and crisp. The best part when I ask for something not on the menu they deliver. They also make the best Negroni's in Atlanta second only to Rossinis in New York city. Pros: wine selection, Good service, Extensive food Cons: parking more

Great Italian 8/5/2003

Finally an Italian restaurant that is good and isn't a chain. The place isn't much to look at, but the food makes up for the atmosphere. The chicken parm is the best I have ever had. This place blows Maggiano's out of the water. Cons: Limited Parking more
