Editorial review from Citysearch 8/22/2013

it's our new weekly hangout. the best pizza, great service, inexpensive, comfortable environment, and did i mention the pizza? we've experimented with the rest-amalfi restaurant and bar's is definitely the best. more

Decent Italian Place 2/19/2010

I love LA restaurants that have amazing food without the LA attitude and Amalfi Restaurant is simply that! I went for a dinner party and it was great. Everyone liked what they ordered (pizza, the Barolo Risotto dish and other things), I kept hearing the buzz about the Pumpkin Ravioli w/braised short rib and that's exactly what I got and I loved it! It was a perfect combo of flavors. I loved it and would definitely go back. My only complaint was our waitress would take her time and it wasn't that busy! Other than that amazing place. Pros: great food, good drinks Cons: slow service more

Amazing Food 2/17/2009

My boyfriend took me here for Valentine's Day this year. The food was amazing! The only two problems we had were that the tables are a little close together. However, I'm sure this could be fixed when you make your reservation by asking to be seating in the corner or something. We also did not get a good server at all. When he was with us, he was nice, but he was not very attentive at all. The other servers seemed very good though, so it was probably just ours. We will definitely be returning! Pros: Food! Cons: tables close together more

neighborhood gem 7/16/2008

I've been to this place quite a few times as it's almost within walking distance from my house. I'll have to say I've never had a bad experience. The service is SUPER friendly and the food is always consistently good. It seems to not be all that crowded when I've been there which is a shame because everything about it is a pleasant dining experience. We brought a bottle of very nice champagne to celebrate a birthday and the waiter was so sweet, he waived the corkage. The lamb chops were to DIE for!!! more

Great Neighborhood Place 6/29/2008

This is a great neighborhood Italian place. The food is always good and the service is attentive and friendly. Ok, I just have to say - regarding the comment below - ""who puts peas in risotto?"" - Are you kidding? I just had the most delectable summer risotto with peas (not my first time). Peas are a wonderful ingredient in risotto - very common, actually. Have you seen Hell's Kitchen? more

Worth the trip 4/1/2008

I just read the review by sxzdiva and she couldn't be farther from the ""truth."" This is a great neighborhood spot, casual with good food and reasonable prices in today's marketplace. The Spicy Salami Pizza, Grilled Salmon Salad and the Caesar Chicken Salad were all tasty and filling and reasonably priced. The service by Naomi was excellent even though she had a 8 top in the main dining room and we were in the bar. It was my first time (used to go there when it was Farfalle) and I will go back. Andl getting back to the non sxz diva, who seems to possess alot of anger, the Italian restaurants she mentions I do believe are at a much higher price point, so chill out and compare garlic to garlic. Go to Amalfi, relax enjoy the food. Pros: Parking, Menu selection Cons: None on this visit more

Horrible food and So-so service 2/17/2008

This is the worst italian food I have ever had. Olive Garden is better compared to this place. I have been to Cicada, Valentino, Il Sole, Ago...and this is nothing compared to those places. The risotto is the worst EVER!!!! Who puts peas in the risotto, and since when is risotto made dry? Hmm, sounds tasty-Probably not. And the service, oh Boy. The guy who brings the food out doesn't make sense and when asked for something like lemon or peppers, he has a blank look on his face- Poor guy. Honestly for the price I would check out the other places that I mentioned....they are the BEST. Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

best risotto in town 2/3/2008

Amalfi is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. The service is always excellent barring one waiter who tends to disappear. The food is tasty and filling especially the chicken, grilled salmon and the mouth watering risotto. I have been many many times and they are always consistently good. I feel a warm welcome each time I go which combined with the fabulous food makes for a great night out. Pros: fabulous food more

Good food; horrendous customer service 12/21/2007

Food was good, but I'll never go back there -- they didn't honor a gift certificate I'd bought from a third party (even though they honored another certificate just a year before). Filed a complaint -- they never even replied. Avoid this restaurant. more

Romantic, delicious, amazing service.... 10/9/2006

Amalfi is easily my favorite restaurant in LA. The atmosphere is very beautiful, relaxing, romantic, and perfect for special occasions, like anniversaries. Their cheese plate is to die for, completely perfect with a glass of Pinot Griggio. The staff is warm and nice, not to mention accomodating. I wasn't happy with the spicy sauce (I'm not a big spicy person) that came with my fried calamari appatizer, and they didn't even blink an eye to whip up something else I'd be happy with. My boyfriend and I have been there several times, and have never been disappointed in any way by the service, food, or ambiance. It's become that place we say ""OH, when you're in town we HAVE to take you to Amalfi!"" Pros: Wonderful food, great wine and cheese selections, friendly and accomodating staff Cons: On the expensive side, so not for everyday dining - but utterly perfet for special occasions more

Eh... 10/1/2006

Great atmosphere, if you can get through the wannabes that trickle over from ACME after a show. Then be prepared to spend WAY TOO MUCH for wine and drinks. I know it's LA, but come on! The food is actually really good and the service is great. Bartender has a great memory. If you see a show at ACME it's a really convenient place to get dinner and drink after, but be prepared to spend alot if you do. more

Great customer service, food and ambiance. 9/25/2006

This restaurant has amazing personal pizzas and the fettucini with pink vodka sauce and fresh peas was to die for! We also started with cheese and wine which both were excellent. It was very relaxing and romantic. I felt like I was in an Italian restaurant in Italy! I will definately be back often! Pros: thumbs up! Cons: none that I found more

Nice Atmosphere 7/22/2006

The pink sauce tortellini is delicious! The spinach and tomato they serve with that is really good as well. Definitely get that dish if you go this restaurant! The ambience is nice because the front facing la brea is open so even if you are sitting a little further in, you can feel the breeze while eating. It's fun and casual! Pros: Nice atmosphere, inside decor, pink sauce tortellini Cons: A bit pricey, service is okay. more

fantastic food, lovely ambiance, low-key place 7/3/2006

Amalfi always has fantastic food--delicious pastas (my favorites are the tagliolini and the fusilli dishes but specials are always great too), and amazing pizzas (chicken pesto is my fave), great salads, full bar and nice wine list. The ambiance is lovely and the prices are very reasonable. Consistently great food and no attitude. Fun bar area too. Highly recommend. Pros: great food, lovely ambiance, no attitude more

Such a good deal! 2/12/2006

Great decor and ambience, good food and service too. I am a Minestrone fan and the one that I had at Amalfi was the best that I have ever had in LA so far. Pastas were also delicious. It will be a loss if you skip the bread which was served warm and crispy - yummy! Salads and pizzas looked good too, will definitely try next time. It's a wonderful place for a date or a group dinner. Pros: great decor, good food, easy street parking more

Multi-purpose dining 8/28/2005

Amalfi seems like it would be a great place for a romantic dinner, a business lunch, a place to meet friends for drinks, and most other dining experiences that don't include children. The prices were very reasonable, though we didn't have any wine which I hear is a little pricy, and the ACME comedy theatre next door was great! And when you go, don't valet- there's usually plenty of street parking on La Brea. Pros: pizza, ACME comedy theatre more

Great service and ambience, ok food 7/29/2005

The food was pretty good, with the pizza being excellent and the pasta dishes ok. The wine was a little pricey, but they had an extensive wine list. The service was excellent! Pros: Service, Value, Ambiance Cons: Pasta Dishes more

Awful experience 7/21/2005

Well I just read the previews review and to be honest it hasn't improved at all. The service doesn't exist, the manager was rude and the food not that great. Cons: long wait for food, no service, rude more

Poor showing 12/14/2003

This place just opened and seems trendy and busy. With the food and service we got, it won't be for long. The room is pretty and we were seated promptly in the empty front portion of the restaurant. No server came, so I went to the hostess after 10 minutes. Someone finally took our drink order, and after we asked, our food order, but then never came back to check, or even clear or bring a bill. No bread was ever offered, nor water. I felt like I was at home! The food was average, nothing special, and the service non-existent. Pros: Ambiance Cons: Service, Crowded, Chaotic more

Romancing the Night 11/19/2003

The atmosphere is very romantic - low lighting & even a fireplace. Rumor has it that there is live music nightly upstairs. The value was decent - not too pricey. I would recommend making a reservation and for large parties I noticed there was a large back room. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Parking more

Amalfi Restaurant and Bar is a Hip Hollywood Hang Out with Great Italian Food

Owner Message
  • Mix with and watch the bustling crowds of well-heeled industry types while sipping a sultry and spicy glass of Pinot Noir. Amalfi Restaurant & Bar is easily accessible from anywhere in Los Angeles and is located in the Hollywood area, nuzzled close to Hancock Park. Unless it's very busy, you can make reservations for the popular patio or near the cozy fireplace. Hearty Italian specialties like wood-fired meats and homemade pastas are served in generous portions across the board. An excellent starter is the perfectly grilled salmon served over mixed greens dressed in a tangy lemon-olive oil vinaigrette. Stellar entrees include tender, wood fire roasted rack of lamb, and the simple, but juicy, grilled New York steak on a bed of arugula. Make a night of it and pop into the Acme Comedy Theatre or Room 5, located directly upstairs.
