Alterations By Lena

Everyone is so unfriendly there! Clasps were crooked and too much taken in my dress, now the dress is too tight! Not happy with the alterations or the people there! more

There is a reason why this shop is always busy. These ladies do excellent work and I and several of my friends have been coming here for many years from a considerable distance. Come on, folks- Maybe the workers there aren't fawning all over you and asking about your day but they are always courteous and helpful. Perhaps people are too sensitive - Lena herself has extremely good taste and knows what looks good and what does not and will be honest with her opinion - which has not always been what I liked to hear at the time but was meant well and was absolutely spot on. If you don't want to hear the truth when they think the alteration will spoil the garment or they think it wont hang right when done, (but will still do the work as instructed if you insist on having the work done after that) don't go here. If you want excellent work done on time and an honest opinion (wouldn't you appreciate it if someone told you that you had spinach in your teeth after lunch instead of going around smiling like that all day? ;-)) then bring your business here. more

I went to Lena's to have a very expensive dress altered after having her be referred to by the person i purchased my dress from. My first experience there when they were fitting me was not awful but not friendly workers and not sociable at all. When I was there the first time i made specific requests like leaving two to three inches on the bottom because I was planning to buy HIGH heels at the time (mind you i was wearing a pair of their shoes but requested that to be safe) and for the train at the back of my dress to be a few inches lying on the floor. To my dismay when I picked up the dress and put it on it was lying almost an inch off the ground so my toes were hanging out from underneath and the train just touched the floor. After buying a shorter pair of shoes (not at all what I was looking for) I returned to Lena's to try it on and show her my unhappiness. When comparing the shoes I initially had on when I was there for my first fitting to the ones i had recently bought the difference was minimal of a cm at that. I put the dress on to show my toes hanging out the front and the train just touching the floor. When the workers I confronted about this situation saw me in the dress they argued back at me continuously about how the dress was ""fine"" and ""this is how we do all the dresses"" Unfortunately the way they do other dresses is not what I requested nor was it fitting to my body. more

I've had many things altered here. They can be a bit more pricey at times, and yes, they aren't the most personable people, but if you know what you want you get it. I suspect people who are unhappy haven't been detailed about their desires. I've had denim and cotton/polyester blends, skirts, dresses, and a few shirts altered here and never been less than pleased. When you enter just go right into the dressing room and put the outfit on then step back out. It's strange, I'm sure, but the women are busy and this is more efficient.
