Al's Chimney Sweep

After using our fireplace heavily all winter, it was in desperate need of cleaning. We called several Pittsburgh area chimney cleaning companies and ended up hiring Al's Chimney Sweep. They cleaned out the chimney & fireplace and now we're ready to burn again next winter. more

Called Al to get an estimate on a chimney liner. He answered right away on his cell phone, we set up an appointment and he arrived promptly the next day. Checked the outside of the house, the attic where the wall plaster was peeling and the furnace. Gave me a choice of the more expensive stainless steel liner or aluminum. Al's estimate was the least expensive of the 3 I got for this job. more

We contacted Al back in November and he promptly came within 2 days to give us an estimate. He was very concise and thorough in his explanations of the work that needed to be done. He also was several hundred dollars cheaper than another company that gave us an estimate. We had just purchased our Pittsburgh home one month prior and had no intentions of using the 2 ash-laden fireplaces. We told him we were concerned about the mess/dust from him cleaning them out since we have a child with a respiratory illness. He was very sensitive to that and said his equipment and his care in cleaning would be evident. Due to the fact that the weather was getting cold quickly, we put this project off for several months since the roof work wasn’t safe to do below 40 degrees. I contacted Al again and told him we’d like to have him do his proposed work. I said we understood that there may be a price increase from what he quoted several months prior, but he honored the original quote and was able to do the work the next day. He and his father showed up several minutes early and got right to work. They laid clean drop cloths inside the house leading to the fireplaces. Both fireplaces were thoroughly cleaned with no dust clouds or residue anywhere inside. Al then prepared the chimney for the flue liner. Our home is 54 years old and the brick chimney was VERY hard to cut into. It took a lot of time and effort to make the necessary hole for the liner to fit in. Cleanup was great. Both men then went to work on the chimneys and did a fabulous job. They invited my husband to come up on the ladder to see the work. We were very pleased with the jobs they tackled, their neatness/cleanup, and their efficient use of time. more

Al's saved me a 45 minute trip on a busy day, by going out by himself to the site to get my estimate, he called me later that day with it, and made arrangements for the next week when he would call and make the install appointment. In less than a week he and a member of his crew were back to install the 2 over sized chimney-caps (which had to be ordered in). They installed them atop our 4 story roof to my 109 year old chimneys there. Al's also took care of some minor repairs to the one chimney, at no additional charge. I found him to be reasonable, reliable, punctual, fair and HONEST! We would do more business here in a heartbeat...But because of his excellent work -we are banking that will not be soon. more

Al gave a reasonable quote for the work, scheduled a good time for me. Very prompt, very knowledgeable, very professional. Laid down alot of floor coverings, excellent cleanup. Great advice on possibly converting to ventless gas or back to woodburning. Al is very pleasant and seems like someone you could trust. I highly recommend Al's Chimney Sweep.
