I've been going to Al's since I moved to the greater Bay Area, and have never encountered a better burger. Period. The folks at this tiny stand have narrowed the humble burger to what it really should be. They need no gimmicks, and while their selection may seem a little limited compared to the upscale places like Barney's, this allows them to focus on what they do best. That said, if a true burger isn't really what you're craving, or if you want a little more, they've got it for you. Huge, thick shakes, mozzarella sticks, fries galore, and a fantastic charcoal grill right in front of you, so you know exactly what happens to your food, start to finish. Their standard is a 1/3 pounder, in my opinion the perfect patty, but they'll do double that or half that much, with fresh fixin's and a perfectly toasted bun. Their prices are phenomenal. A $10 bill should deal with any appetite. If you get the chance, drop in and chow down, you won't be disappointed.
