An Urban Sanctuary 5/18/2006

As a Los Angeles native and one who travels a lot for work I am continually looking for the perfect studio. Alpha State is it in Columbus! This movement arts studio is great place to reconnect. The staff made me feel welcome and provided a safe place to explore my inner and outer landscape. The classes are varied and fun. You will find no yoga diva attitude at this studio. Also they have a great pilates studio attached. I have taken one on one sessions on the ""reformer"" and all I can say is wow. The studio has a Spa like feel and puts you in a state of relaxation from the moment you open the door. I have yet to find a studio like this in Los Angeles. Pricing is resonable, parking is easy and its a fantastic place to let your inner child come out and play. more

A place to call home 5/17/2006

I have visited a lot of studios in the Columbus area and found Alphastate to be positive and welcoming. I am new to Pilates and the teachers were very attentive to my needs, integrating me into the class, giving me pointers while directing the rest of the class. I felt like the teacher and the staff were able to help me as a beginner without making me feel singled out or ""like the slow kid."" On return trips to the studio I was impressed that the staff and teachers remembered me by name. I made me feel like I had found a home. I highly reccomend Alphastate. Pros: attentive instructors, great atmosphere, 90 day for $90 intro Cons: no morning classes, no class on wednesday more

Pleasant Introduction to World of Pilates/Yoga 5/17/2006

Being a novice to Pilates, Alpha State was a very pleasant introduction into the mind/body experience of Pilates. I have taken private instruction on their apparatus as well as mat classes in their mat studio and have benefitted greatly and grown to love pilates even more! (How is that possible!) The large number of different apparatus provide a well rounded variety for a great workout. The mat room and the apparatus room are separated so that it provides a quiet atmosphere and the colorful decor give a peaceful, grounded feel. The class size enough so I ""feel"" like I blend in without feeling too crowded, instruction is superb. Whether having a private session or taking a mat class in a larger class I feel the instructors are still able to give me expert instruction. I would highly recommend this studio to people I know and already have! Pros: Instructors, Atmosphere, Apparatus more

Relax and Renew 5/17/2006

I live in a big overwhelming city, but previous to this I spent some time in Columbus and even more time at this wonderful studio. The ambiance was so wisely crafted. The walls covered in soothing colors and the rooms filled with seasonal plants and enchanting music. The owners are always accesseble and friendly. The studio has a wonderful small community feeling. You can get to know your fellow peers as well as the instructors, and if you have questions you can feel completley comfortable to ask anything- even where to get the best bite to eat in the area! They know their stuff. The quality of instruction is great. I always felt that even when the classes got big- only like 15 or so people- that I had personal attention and felt safe. A great place to grow with. I look forward to coming back when I visit! Pros: great space, friendly teachers more

ISO the ""alpha state""? Go elsewhere! 3/7/2006

This company is clearly more focused on getting student's money than serving their needs or helping anyone to reach a peaceful state of mind. Classes were cancelled at a moment's notice, vacation closings are a priority for the studio (since when is 'spring break' a nationally recognized week-long holiday?) Limited focus on student's needs, limited class schedule (no evening classes on Wednesdays) and crowded classes. Routines are the same each week. Class starts late and finishes early. All of the instuctors are very friendly, but most people don't join an expensive studio to just socialize. It's sad to say, but if you're really trying to see results, you're probably better off renting Yoga and Pliates DVDs and working out at home! Pros: ample parking, 90 day trial for $90, friendly staff Cons: expensive to join, VERY limited schedule, CROWDED!!! more
