Dec 2006 - After taking my 2003 Honda to Steele Creek Tire & Auto on 12/11 to have the front brakes checked, and feeling like I was being ripped off, I went to Almar Auto on 12/13. Steele Creek charged me $40, didn't drive the car, and came back with an estimate of $258 to replace the front brake pads ($105) and turn the rotors ($153 labor). I said I'd wait and he told me that ""we may not be the cheapest but we're the best!"" Right. I asked Discount Tire on S. Tryon (where I bought my tires) who they recommended and they gave me a very high recommendation of Almar Automotive on South Blvd. I took my car there on Wed. 12/13. They drove the car, checked the brakes, and Andy, the owner (really nice guy), told me that the front brake pads were only half worn down and to just take a hose pipe and flush the brakes out, that it was just probably some road debris making the noise. I will never return to Steele Creek Tire - just another example of an auto shop taking advantage. But I'll sing the praises of Almar and gladly drive to South Blvd. for anything else I ever need for my car as long as I live in CLT.
Pros: Honest and knowledgeable
Cons: Busy South Blvd, but who cares - I'd go anywhere for an honest mechanic
