Albany Aquarium

My host family and I have a very dear beta fish named Alouishious. We discovered that she is a female beta when my host mother and I went to the aquarium to get her a bigger tank.\r \r Getting her a bigger tank wasn't an easy process. If you have fish as a pet, you probably know what I mean, but all the staffs at Albany Aquarium were so helpful and answered all of our questions thoroughly! We felt that they shared our love for fish and are very knowledgeable and passionate in their job. They also listened to everything we told them about Alouishious.\r \r We were also very happy to see that all the fish at the aquarium are very healthy and are well taken care of! They have so many beautiful kinds of fish as well as plants that live under water. \r \r Alouishious loves her new tank as well as the underwater heater and the plants we got from the aquarium. I really like this place and think it's one of the better fish stores in the East Bay. They have a great selection of fish--a bit more expensive than other shops, but worth it as they are really beautiful and healthy fish. The focus is on community fish, not aggressive species. They also have an unusually good selection of plants if you're into planted tanks. The owner is very friendly and helpful, though one of the male employees is knowledgeable but pretty patronizing to customers and could stand to improve his customer service skills. My son loves visiting this pet shop to look at all the fishes. We don't own a fish aquarium but will soon since my son loves the fish. I think I'll get one for him when he's old enough to clean and take care of it. The staff is great and very friendly. They practically know us by now so they just greet us most of the time. more

Stepping into Albany Aquarium is a little like walking into a dungeon's waiting room: very dark and oddly lit, but with pretty fish swimming in scattered tanks. Fish seemed reasonably healthy, with no discernable floaters. Staff seemed non-existant, but maybe I caught them at an awkward time. They offer a selection of fishes here at Albany Aquarium and competitive prices that'll keep you here as a regular customer. They sell everything you need as a beginner or a hard core fish addict. The service is pretty good and the staff is pretty knowledgeable with everything. more

I used to go here to buy feeders for my son's fish. I used to work out in Berkeley so this was just on the way back home. Service is great and will help you with anything you need. Very knowledgeable staff too. My son says they have big feeders here. more

This may seem like a small shop front but packed into the small space is alot of different salt water and fresh water fish, aquariums and supplies. They definately know their fish and have always been able to answer my question. My only realy criticism is that with so much inventory its rather cramped and you find yourself squeezing past other customers to get to what you need. They are supposed to be moving to a larger premises but thats been the intention for over 8 months. more
