Akwa

My friend and i heard about akwa and decided to try it out. We were seated quick but we made reservations and we sat upstairs patio and the place had a nice setting to it. The food was great especially the seabass. The Kobe beef was ok not the best thing on the menu. Service was kinda slow but the food was good so i didn't mind much. The manager went to every table except ours so i was kinda like what the...but its ok np. You gotta try the desserts there so good and fresh. All in all had a great time would go there again. As a person who lived in Japan for four years, I can say that the sushi here isn't good enough to call ""sushi"". The service is even worse than that. The decor is nice, but that's literally all that Akwa offers. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. Our waitstaff was terrible - our tab was miscalculated FOUR times and service was non-existant. We had to go to the bar ourselves 3 times. Pros: Decor Cons: Service, Sushi, Value more

Akwa's sushi is the best in town. Even better than Sushi Roku or Nobu! I went in w/family that were visiting from out of town and not everyone enjoys sushi so I had heard Akwa offered a different menu as well. My aunt had the Sea Bass and absolutely loved it! My uncle had the Kobe Flat Iron Steak and raved about it. The Sushi is fresh and delicious! Most definitely going to go back! I have been hearing a lot about this amazing restaurant. My husband and I dined on their gorgeous outdoor patio. We started out with porcini raviolis which were to die for. Just enjoyed a Saturday evening dinner at Awka and felt compelled to share my experience since I believe the restaurant is on the verge of being great. I ordered from the sushi menu and was impressed with the quality of the fish. The Akwa roll is not to missed and the chocolate desert is to die for. The upstairs outdoor dining is great and the latin dinner band was one of the best in town. So great food, beautiful setting and wonderful live music only problem was the service. While the service personal where very friendly we could not understand why they were so slow. Everything from our drinks to the meal to the desert was delayed. Granted, if you go on a Fri/Sat, service will suffer, but if you make sure you bring good conversation with you, then you will have a spectacular evening. Ask what the favorites are on the menu and order that - that's what we did and it was the most delectable meal I've ever had. They also had this amazing latin band play - so much fun. If you want to make it a special night (and don't mind waiting 20 minutes for a menu) - go to Akwa. more

I was extremely dissappointed with Akwa. Coming into Akwa, I was impressed by their decor but all this was quickly washed away with the poor service. It took at least 20 minutes to even get a menu & 3 different requests to get a food menu or a sushi menu! From then on, it only got worse as our food took hours to deliver & we were almost forced to go up to the bar just to get refills on our drinks. Then getting the check took another hour. The potential of this place was giant, but I can see while there were so few people inside. I would never go back or recommend it to anyone. more

Don't bother going to this restaurant. It took them 20 minutes just to get our drinks and about an hour to get the food which was mediocre and expensive. If you want quality sushi or asian fusion cuisine I do not recommend this place. There are many other great asian fusion restaurants in Santa Monica and I seiously recommend that you stay away from this place more

A bit of ""SoHo"" in Santa Monica. Pretty and romantic there open air patio is a beautiful departure from the ""third street promenade."" The food was phenominal and the service was excellent. I recently ate at Akwa and, though I enjoyed my entree (potato crusted ahi), me and my 3 guests had a bad experience with our waiter who employed cheesy used car sales tactics. When my girlfriend ordered a salad and sushi as her meal, he asked ""is that all?"" in a condescending tone as to make her feel like she hadn't met some imaginery minimum order amount.
