happily recommend this Indian food place. Cheese nan here is better than pizza!

Worst

Service started off shakily and became worse as the evening went on. The waiter seemed to lose interest in us after we ordered the food. The 'Dinner' system involved having sides...

Akbar is far from authentic Indian food. I see a lot of hash browns being used camouflaged in curry (try the malai kofta or papdi chat for that). Dinner at Akbar is a complete rip-off. The restaurant needs to add some more veggie dishes for lunch. The food reminds you of fast-food shacks in India. The ambience is good... good food to match that would do wonders. The food here was so delicious, I highly recommend this restaurant. Our server was also extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgable about the wine as well as the food. I am definitely going back to this place!! more

Golden 8/8/2004

This is one of LA's hidden treasures. Unlike other Indian restaurants in the city, the food is fresh, well-prepared and the service is excellent. In the know ask for the wine list not advertised to general customers. The wine list is astounding, comparable only to Valentino's from what I've seen here. The Best Cuisine 6/11/2004

I have never enjoyed indian food, Until I stumbled into Akbar. I was looking for a bar and found the diamond in the rough. I was greeted by Atul and made me love indian food again. He started me with Chicken Kati roll, dal of the day, and chicken tikka masala. I ended it with dessert THE BEST KESARI KHEER hands down. Now I reccommended it to my friends and Family and they always praise me. My favorite is the Chilean Sea Bass Tandoori. You have to try the best wine selection and the prices are unbelieveable. Best Indian Food in LA, hands down 5/11/2004

I have tried so many Indian places in LA and this one is the best. Nino, the host, is so friendly and always remembers your name and what you like to eat. The atmosphere is casual but lovely and the food is incredible. Every dish has a unique flavor and you'll want to lick your plate clean. They also have an amazing wine selection and are huge wine enthusiasts so be sure to ask for a recommendation. Indian WITH ambience 12/2/2003

Nino (the host) is really great...a warm person with an excellent memory of his customers. We just let him know how hungry we are and he puts together a menu for us. I have never been disappointed with anything he's chosen! The wine list is amazing, and the remodel really cozied up the room, while actually expanding seating. Go figure! Neighborhood Gem 3/3/2003

I'm a huge fan of Akbar. Honestly, I haven't eaten Indain food much, but as far as food goes, this place is quality. The service was amazing (thanks Nino), food was cooked they way I wanted it and the wine selection was suprisingly extensive.
