This place has some ok points. Just be careful during slow hours, you don't know how long the sushi has been floating on those boats! It's probably best to order straight from you...

Love this place. Sushi brought to you in little boats. While you're waiting you can ask the chef to make you anything you want. more

Not impressed 5/9/2012

Flies. Not a good sign in a place with uncovered food floating around for who knows how long. more

Favorite sushi place EVER! 11/24/2009

In the first few days I moved to California, some friends took us to A'float Sushi and I was instantly hooked. It's a really fun place to take people who've never had the pleasure of picking delicious sushi dishes off of cool little boats floating around a table moat... As well as revisit the place again and again. The portions are great per dish because you can try a lot of different kinds of sushi without going broke, and for what they give you (and the great quality of the food they give), it's very reasonably priced. And if there's something you want that isn't in one of the boats, just let the chef or the waitress know and they'll bring it out to you. A couple times I've gone, the service was a little slow to get drinks, but the pros heavily outweigh the cons. Pros: Delicious sushi, unique atmosphere, friendly staff Cons: Sometimes the service can be a little slow. more

5 star restaurant. Excellent. 6/21/2009

I loved my experice at this restaurant the first time I went to A float. My family and I were greeted instantly by the waitress and seated. We went early (5:00) so it wasn't too crowded. My 2 kids loved the idea of this restaurant of picking your favorite dishes off the floating ships. I tried almost about everything with my husband. We both agreed this was the best sushi we have tasted in a long time, ever since we left New Jersey. There's just so much variety and the prices are reasonably priced, unlike another sushi restaurant I went to a couple weeks ago, which charged $5 for a small bowl of miso soup!! The waitresses/waiters were all really kind and patient that we had stayed for 2 hours. Most other busy places would just give us the check. As time passed, and it was 7:00, the place got crowded. I could see why this restaurant had such good buisness. It was because it was really worth the wait. Pros: FOOD, atmosphere, service more

Floats my Boat 6/1/2009

This is one of my favorite places to go when im in a rush. I can literally be in and out of there in 30 min. This is a great spot if you are going to shop at the local retailers, or gunna go out to one of the local clubs. Because you can get a great meal at a fast food pace! The sushi is always fresh, and the Chefs (although not Japanese) are great at sushi making. Pros: Healthy food, at a fast food pace. more

Wonderful restaurant! 9/1/2008

Afloat is a cute restaurant set in busy Old Town, Pasadena. This certainly caught my eye and I went in with my family of 4. It was a Saturday night so we had to wait to be seated. The wait was brief though- we were seated about 5/10 min later. Pros: Food, atmosphere, pricing more

Surprisingly good! 5/22/2008

My boyfriend and I stopped here on a whim while walking around Pasadena. The sushi was surprisingly good! I enjoy this style of dining for a quick lunch and I was not disappointed. The plates that had sashimi on them were cheap for how much fish there was and for how good it was! I would stop here again! Pros: Good place to stop for lunch, pretty good sushi Cons: Service was okay more

terrific restaurant! 11/22/2007

A float sushi is the best japanese restaurant around in the L.A. County! It has great service and a variety choice of food to choose from. I will be looking foward to going again next week. The waitresses and waiters are very polite and I like how the chefs stand in the middle of the bar and cooks whatever you tell them you want! I really like how the small boats float around and you can just take food off of it. The way the charge you is also really unique. Pros: everything i loved going there!!! Cons: service is terrific but could use a bit improvement more

Eat at your own risk! 7/6/2007

The food was great but unfortunatley I didn't notice until I was done eating that the sushi chef used the same dish cloth to clean the inside of the sink as he did the counter top where he made the Sushi!!!! Pros: taste and price was excellent Cons: Discusting and unsanitary! more

A weekly pilgrimage of mine... 6/4/2007

This place is always packed. That says a lot about it. The sushi isn't the very best, but along with the fun environment and the very helpful staff, you look beyond it. Being able to pick and choose the sushi that you would like as it rounds the bend is so much fun. After the first time, the novelty wears off a bit, but that is simply because you end up seeing the same cuisine each time that you go. I haven't seen much deviation from the format at all. The only problem I have, but it hasn't been strong enough to keep me away, is that parents will bring their children and allow them to grab at whatever appeals them. Of course this is the thrill, but a coughing child ripe with germs is sitting three seats before me, and he is clawing at everything before it gets to me. Some of the items, unfortunately, made their escape from the child's fingers that just came from his face. These same items may have escaped, BUT THEY WERE TOUCHED! Since the boy was not quick enough to catch the fish, it moves along. BUT HE TOUCHED IT! And the parent says nothing. Lost my appetite that day. But this should all be written as what the customer doesn't know, won't hurt him/her. After all, someone did take what that kid graced. And no one seems to be the wiser. :) Pros: Sushi as eye candy, immediate gratification, novel Cons: Long waits, children, not much variety more

Sushi for Dummies 4/17/2007

First the good: I periodically go here when I have a sushi craving and limited time. You can get in, eat, and get out in around 30 minutes. Also, it's very convenient to not have to place an order at all (except for drinks). The prices are reasonable. more

Sushi without the attitude 11/12/2006

Sometimes, sushi chefs (and sushi lovers) can take themselves just a little too seriously. Yes, fresh o-toro and uni can be sublime when prepared by a master chef. But sometimes, sushi is just rice 'n fresh fish 'n veggies and that's plenty good enough. Afloat Sushi gives diners an ever-changing array of freshly prepared sushi as it floats by on little boats. Okay, it's a little kitschy, but it's fun! The price of the sushi is clearly marked by the design/color of the dishes, making it great fun for the budget-conscious -- you can see how much your bill will be as your empty dishes stack up. Sometimes, some sushi stays on the go-round a little too long -- but anyone who's feeling freshness-conscious can make a request for the roll/nigiri or dish they want from the chefs who are always ready to make more sushi to replenish the assortment. Great fun and good food at a good price -- what more could you want? Pros: fun atmosphere, fresh sushi, reasonably priced Cons: some sushi stays on the boats a little too long more

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.. 11/4/2006

We go every sunday and have for the last two months....Can't beat it...it is a nice location with great prices...We had sushi here and found each piece more delectable than the last more

Floating boats are fun! 11/2/2006

Sit at the bar and pick from a variety of choices going around on the boats. Their shrimp walnut roll is great. The fish is decent for the price. more

this place kept my wallet a'float 4/6/2006

my boyfriend and i went here for lunch and we both loved it! the lunch menu's variety is plentiful and the cute little boats carrying the sushi was too cute. we ordered bento-styled lunches and it kept us full and satisfied. the service was awesome and prompt. and our lunch together cost less than $13! i don't know about the dinner here, but their lunch is great. we will go again! Pros: interesting, ambiance, service more

Other Than Cancer 3/31/2006

If you were diagnosed with cancer and given 2 hours to live, you should probably spend that time with your daughter. Otherwise an evening at Afloat Sushi is a good way to spend $60 and feel not necessarily very intensely bad nor great about it. The parade of sushi boats is truly a sight. At no other restaurant can a diner witness all of the menu items he does NOT want, displayed before him in slow succession. Go with friends, and make sure not to drive over any traffic cones on the way home. Also avoid seconds on the $5.95 dessert. I have no idea what I was thinking. And if, during the course of your meal, a sushi chef, bus boy or family of runaway slaves climbs out from the undergound railroad-like tunnel underneath the sushi bar, pay them no mind. Pros: boats, floats, underground railroad Cons: dessert, price, underground railroad more
