I've taken my car here a few times and I've always been very happy with their customer service and automotive repair service. They tell me exactly what is going on and have never done unnecessary work on my car. I recommend them to anyone who is in need of a quality and trustworthy auto repair shop. more

We got tired of being milked at the BMW dealership and have since switched to AAC. They are a family-owned, very ethical and straightforward business and understand the value of a dollar. They also have technically trained employees and updated equipment. They're a pleasure to do business with! more

I chose this place to fix my car after an accident because of the recommendations here. They did OK work, but we had to bring it back a few times for them to continue fixing things that they themselves said, ""oh, wow, yeah you're right."" Also, be prepared: Steve is very pleasant in person, but very difficult on the phone-- defensive, talks over you, doesn't listen... says he wants you to be happy but then goes on and on about how much he's done for you already. My blood pressure went up every time I was on the phone with him, yet he's low stress and easy face to face. Weird. Just be aware. Never going there again, but for simple fixes and things, they're OK. more

i have been taking my old car to Advanced auto for almost 4-5 years now and it has always been serviced so well that i can not imagine taking my car some where else. No matter how far i am, if my car needs to be serviced,i make sure i go to Advanced. Steve , Mike and thier team are relentless in thier work and make you feel important. if it werent for them i dont think i would still be driving my 1995 year old car- which btw still drives as good and as reliable as if it is only 3 years old !!! I just had a great experience with Advance Auto Center so I thought I'd share. After reading numerous good reviews online, I decided to take my Jeep there for maintenance. I moved up to Boston from Maryland a couple years ago and I have put off finding a good mechanic for awhile for fear of getting ripped off. In MD, there are a ton of shops that specialize in lifted/off road vehicles (my Jeep is lifted) and I was also looking to find someone up here who had actually seen a lift kit before since you don't see as many around here. I was immediately impressed as soon as I dropped the Jeep off for maintenance. They carefully listened to all of the things that I wanted looked at and already started offering up potential solutions to the problems that I was encountering. I left for the day and they called me a few hours later. It turns out that there was a laundry list of work that needed to be done. They ran everything by me, explained it thoughtfully, and offered a prioritized list in case I wanted to put off any of the work until later since it was starting to add up. At this point I trusted these guys and it was clear that they knew what they were doing, so I went ahead and had all of the work done rather than waiting for things to break later. When I picked up the car, they again explained everything clearly. They had noted items to watch on the car for the future. They even found flaws with the way the lift kit had initially been put on so they tweaked things a bit. These guys really went above and beyond in my opinion. Bottom line, Advance Auto Center is professional, honest, and they treat people respectfully. The way they explained issues to me made it clear that they wanted me to understand my car, what changes needed to be made, and why. You never expect to leave the mechanic's with a warm and fuzzy feeling, but these guys have taken customer care to a whole new level. Pros: Professional, honest, good explanations more

I have heard good things about Advance Auto and while they are pleasant people over there I have had a surprise bill EVERY time I have brought my car there. Each time I am quoted a price and confirm that the quote is including labor and everything, the price tends to be $50-$100 more when I go to pick my car up. The last time I was there they tried to charge me $130 more than what I was quoted and they performed work on the car without giving me a call first to check if that was ok with me. I am not sure if it is because I am a woman or what, but I just can't help feeling that I am being taken advantage of. more

Advance Auto Center is busy for a reason, because they are good! I've been bringing my cars here since the early 90s, and have never had any problems with their service. They always come in at or below the estimates Steve has given when I've dropped the car off and the car is always ready when they say it will be. My cousin has been using Advanced Auto Center for years, and can't say enough good about them. My family has a mechanic we have trusted and used for years... but he doesn't work on Volkswagon cars. Pros: reliable honest work at fair price Cons: none. more

I've been taking my cars to Steve & his team since 1995 & have never had a problem they couldn't fix nor a suprise with the bill. Drop off in the morning for service & always ready that evening. He's identified problems that the dealership should address via recalls notices and has helped to explain problem and fix to their OWN mechanics. OUCH. Very busy shop, but never had an appointment that was farther out than 2 weeks max. Short walk to Watertown Square for express buses & nice pastry & sandwich shops across the street. Pros: Honest, affortable, reliable Cons: I can't find one more

Steve and his crew at Advance Auto in Nonantum did a great job coping with my car problem. Not only did they fix it promptly, they charged a fair price (FAR less than the Subaru dealer would have gouged me for ) and explained carefully what was wong. more
