Deceptive warranty 11/14/2008

My garage door spring broke last year. I called Longhorn Overhead Door for a quote and they said they would do it on site after looking at the door. They came out the next day. To replace the springs with lifetime springs was $512.21. \r \r The receipt I received says Action Door & Repair Specialists of Austin, A Division of G.S. Enterprises, Inc. It does not say Longhorn so they have different names but apparently the same owner so I am posting a review here as well.\r \r I was going out of town the next day and needed the door to work for the house sitter so I agreed to the estimate. The springs came with a lifetime warranty so I figured at least that was a positive. \r \r A month or two later I see this little sticker on the inside of my garage door that they placed that says, ""Warranty void if required service date not met."" The service date was a year after the repair. So I have to call them out every year for service if I do not want to void my warranty and have them charge me at least the $68.99 door service every time. \r When the estimate was given for the lifetime springs there was no mention of this requirement and the repair person never said a word about it, just placed the sticker. The invoice I signed makes no mention of the requirement either. \r \r The invoice does say that if I remove the sticker or lose the receipt the warranty is void.\r \r So to summarize, they did a good job but it seemed very expensive compared to what I was reading online as to what spring repair typically costs and then they pull this trick to make it so they can void the warranty or make a bunch of money in the meantime with yearly service calls.\r \r more
