I am surprised to see the reviews below. My wife and I have gone on several occasions and found the food and atmosphere terrific. I also appreciate their using local farmers for...

TERRIBLE SERVICE. 4/15/2005

My boyfriend and I went out to celebrate at ACME, and left angry. We were seated, in an almost empty restaurant, near the back door on a cool evening, and practically ignored by our server, who didn't even tell us the specials. Note that he was much friendlier to the older folks in the place, but I guess he didn't think we would spend much. The food was good, but I could eat only 1/2 my meal--1 of 2 crabcakes. I got the other one boxed up, but forgot it as we left. I came back in less than 5 minutes to find that my meal had already been thrown away. I called that night to complain, and the managers never returned my call, the next day when I called they were not very helpful and offered to ""buy me dessert"" next time. Who would want to go back? Pros: good food Cons: poor service, unresponsive managers more

Our favorite local bistro 8/25/2004

Acme is the reliable restaurant that we return to again and again for it's outstanding wine list and great entrees at a reasonable price. We visit Acme at least once a month (for the last 3 years) and have NEVER been disappointed. Can be busy when the Carolina students are in town so call ahead and make a reservation for one of the window seats. Pros: Great Wine choices, good draft beer, everchanging menu more

Valentine's Day 2/17/2003

Great Valentine's Dinner. The menu made especially for Valentine's day and the food was unbelievable. So unique in its preparation and definitely satisfying. Good evening. Wine a little pricy though. more

eggs cold and hard 1/6/2003

Acme is terrible. I had eggs benedict at brunch, one of the muffins was cold, the other like a rock. What's happening to Carrboro? more

Solid restaurant 1/4/2003

The first visit was unimpressive. Our second time was extremely good and better than anything we have had in the area except Magnolia Grill and Elaine's. Quite an asset to Carrboro. more

why bother? 12/10/2002

How could this place still be up and running? Their servers are less than amateur and the food is merely marginal. Go across the street, go across town, just don't go here! Cons: service, food more

Absolutely terrible 10/14/2002

Quite simply this was a waste of time and money. I ate at Acme this weekend and was appalled that they haven't had to shut down for lack of customers. Despite their claim of ""damn good food"" it was less than marginal. The service was atrocious - even worse than the Waffle House and that's pretty bad! My order was wrong, the food was cold and I had to wait a very long time to just get a cup of coffee. I would never recommend this place and I will never go there again. Do yourself a favor and SKIP THIS ONE... more

Got service? 9/29/2002

15 minutes to receive our salads, another 20 minutes to have someone else's dinners brought out (including specials the waitress hadn't bothered to mention), another 25 minutess to get our food. Wait's wine description: ""Really good""; though it was only average. Inadequate water service. Cold, tasteless bread that wasn't replenished. All this at a price that can buy you a special dining experience at half a dozen other places nearby. Cons: poor service, poor value more

Horrible service. 8/12/2002

Never got to the part where we actually eat the food since the service was so awful we walked out during ordering. The waiter had the audacity to tell my wife that he couldn't bother telling the kitchen to leave off some ingredients from her salad because they were so ""slammed"" that he didn't have time to talk to the kitchen. Nice. We walked across the street to Elmo's and had a lovely meal with great service. more

what happened? 8/9/2002

This used to be our favorite restaurant until recently. My noodles were bland and over-cooked, as was my husband's steak. Also, service was TERRIBLE! Snooty and condescencing servers. Definitely not what it used to be. We go to Lantern instead now. Pros: Good parking Cons: Bad service, Bad food more

Perfect 7/22/2002

My absolute favorite restaurant in the Triangle provides an upscale American cuisine that satisfies anyone's appetite. I first stumbled upon this treasure after getting lost in Chapel Hill, and ventured inside. The menu had many exciting meals, but I decided to go for my steadfast favorite--the cheeseburger. Not only was the burger great but the fries were outstanding. They were not overly greasy, but not bland either. I think they're in a different league then Bojangles, but this place is well worth it. Pros: Great Location, cosmopolitan, Great and varied menu more

TN: Hirsch, Herencia Remondo 6/7/2002

Expensive. Food of mixed quality. Cucumber soup awful. Red Snapper interesting. Best Deal: Glass of Rioja and ""Acme Burger Deluxe"" will run you about $20 with tax and tips. 2000 Hirsch 'Kammern' Grüner Veltliner, $5.50/glass. I believe this is the WS82@$13, not the WS90@$26, but I could be wrong. Anyway, had the stench and tartness of YAC (yet another chardonnay). Not a bad wine, but it's supposed to be GV, not YAC. 1998 Herencia Remondo 'La Montesa,' Rioja, $5.95/glass. WS and RP have reviewed a ""Bodegas Palacios Remondo La Montesa Reserva,"" but at $75, so I'm not sure what this is at $5.95/glass. RP says importer is De Maison Selections of Chapel Hill, so that's probably the source. Very nice wine, nice nose that evolved over the five minutes or so it took me to quaff it. Best restaurant wine I've had in ages. Pros: wine list, red snapper Cons: wine prices, food prices, food in general more
