Not a good place anymore - terrible quality, overpriced, dirty, and poor selection for LUNCH 2/28/2009

I've been to this place in the past and considered it ok. It's been a while and my latest visit was in February 2009. It wasn't a pleasant experience. Without prejudice here's my experience: Pros: Parking, drinks included, bread ok Cons: Dried food, overpriced, not clean, disorganized buffet more

Fast Good Indian 2/27/2009

I can see why this has such a good rating, we went for the lunch buffet today and it was packed! Although it was very full, we walked in and the busser was quickly clearing a table that had just left for us. He was very nice, and promptly got us waters and unleashed us. Wow, I was amazed at the variety of tasty dishes. I have been to many Indian buffets before but all tend to be on the small side, this has got lots, even two soups. You have to be a fan of spice (as in not boring), because although not everything burns your mouth, all the dishes are packed with tons of flavor. I loved the tamarind soup, and the green curry with paneer cheese. We will be returning soon, also 'cause the busser promised to tell me where he was from when I came back. Pros: yummy food, fast service Cons: can be crowded, but this is how you know the food is fresh more

Best Indian Buffet in Portland, OR Area 1/25/2009

My husband and I have been enjoying the lunch buffet at Abhiruchi for several years. The dishes are always plentiful, varied and fresh. Having tried all of the other Indian restaurants in the area, Abhiruchi wins hands down. We have also eaten in many Indian restaurants overseas and Abhiruchi compares favorably with the best of them. The decor is a bit tacky and the restaurant is located in a rather unattractive strip mall, but we don't go there for the ambience. There are always a lot of Indian customers and that's always a good sign. I note there have been complaints from other posters about service, but we have always experienced friendly, quick service during our visits. I am a tad suspicious of some of the one star ratings. Pros: Good variety, freshly prepared food, reasonably priced. more

Delicious Lunch Buffet with a Great Selection 1/9/2009

My husband and I have been eating lunch at Abhiruchi regularly for the past 10 years and LOVE it. They have a great lunch buffet with a wonderful selection of dishes ranging from really spicy to mild. Our nine year old son even loves many of the dishes and is always suggesting we eat lunch there. I can't speak to the dinner experience, but the lunch is self service and is great if you only have an hour. They are typically busy, but not so busy we have to wait for a table. The food has always been fresh, and it seems to draw a good mix of Indian and non-Indian people. The people who work there and the owner have always been very friendly with us despite some language barrier. The decor is not impressive, so be prepared for that, but we go for the food and we bring our friends and family there when they are visiting. I am stunned to see people give them low ratings. Maybe it's their compitition - who knows. I've not tried dinner though as we love the variety of the lunch too much. We have tried a couple other Indian restaurants in the area and while some are also very good, we always go back to Abhiruchi. Pros: Great food and selection on their lunch buffet, no waiting, great for a business lunch Cons: Not impressive decor, in a strip mall with a pub, grocery outlet & K-mart more

Worst food 11/2/2008

I ordered for chicken biryani and I got something that tasted like stale Puliogare. The first biryani that I cooked came out much better. I wasted so much time and money going to the restaurant. And the so called ""ABHIRUCHI SPECIAL"" was equally bad. No salt in masala dosa and Vada. The appetizers will spoil your stomach instead of increasing the appetite. more

Worst restaurant and service 11/2/2008

Hello people!! Firstly I was eagerly waiting to get back home and immediately write a review about this restaurant. They have the worst food and moreover the service is more worst. I and my friends have gone for dinner on a sunday. we ordered biryani (chicken, egg) and they gave us a left over. We also ordered Lamb Samosa, which is too bad to taste and is oily. When I called the manager and complained, he said in entire USA, any Indian restaurant would serve a day before cooked food (which I completely disagree). He almost had a war of words with me. Even the prices were very high compared to any other restaurant. The manager never cared us and he said that people do come here and enjoy the worst food. I had a laugh and gone from there....... Bottom line, please don't go to this restaurant where there is NO proper food and NO customer service. Pros: This column should be deleted for this restaurant Cons: Food and Service WORST more

It's always closed 10/22/2008

I'd like to say I've eaten here, but every time I come to eat they are either closed or have a private party going on. In either case after trying (no kidding) six times, I give up. The India Palace in Hillsboro has great food, and wonderful service. Even if you're doing take out they will serve you hot tea and nam bread while you wait. Not been here and won't ever come back. more

mundane food, but LOUSY service 8/4/2008

Actually, its been a few years since I was there. Went several times, and both times there were 2 waitresses, at that time appeared to be in high school. They were obviously part of the family and so totally did NOT want to be there.....OMG they were downright rude. Any place that would have people like that working there is a place I won't go. Period. Swagat has great food, but sometimes spotty service. Once I demanded an apology from them and received it. But this place? Really bottom drawer. I mean BOTTOM drawer. Like Indian food? go to Swagat. more

Oh my god the best indian food ever! 8/2/2008

Oh my god the best indian food ever! I crave dinner here about one time a month. I am always amazed at the amount of food that comes with the thali dinner- a couple of curry sides, rice, and breads (nan & a flat crisp)and 3 tasty dipping sauces. My husband always gets the chicken jalfege (super moist melt in your mouth chicken) and I have had the lamb kahria (kinda dry only when you compare it to the chicken) and the chicken tiki kabab (kinda like indian Fajitas sizzling out of the oven with onions, cucumbers and flat bread) I love this restaraunt and highly recommend it. The service is fair but the outstanding food more than makes up for it. Great indian beer (Taj Mahal 40, and kingfisher). Pros: quality food Cons: kmart next door- lock your car more
