Abacus has excellent food and presentation. It is also great for people who are looking for healthier choices. They offer menu items that are steamed and served with brown rice and without sauce. This restaurant is way better than what you get in a strip mall. Not that the strip mall should be a standard for comparison! The dishes look nice but somehow lack authentic Chinese flavor. I traveled in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan and got accustomed to GREAT Chinese food and this tastes like it's been dumbed down for American tastes, the garlic sauce in particular. There are a lot of processed vegetables from cans such as the baby corn, the mushrooms, etc. On the plus side, the hot-and-sour soup is excellent and the spring rolls too. Lunch portions are small but the dinner portions are adequete. The staff are very friendly and kind. It gets crowded on weekends but the take-out service is pretty fast. I chose this restaurant for my family based on the review I read on this site, but we were somewhat disappointed. The service was average - if you're doing decent service then it's part of the job and not something extraordinary, the ambience was as good as it could be considering it's in a plaza, and the value - let's just say that the quantity of each dish was equivalent to what my 2 year old daughter takes down in each of her meals plus they were charging too much for it. Pros: Good Parking, Clean, BYOB Cons: Very little quantity, small space, limited menu more
