Amazing! 2/25/2005

We had our first meal at A Cote and now I know why people are so excited about this place! We went the Sunday before Valentine's Day at about 6PM. We were greeted and seated promptly. We had a lovely server, a tall redheaded girl who really cared about her customers! She checked on us several times and anticipated every need. Every single course we had was divine, the drinks were outstanding. The restaurant is beautiful. Great for a date,so romantic! Two words, friend...Cheese Plate. To die for. Just incredible. Everywhere is tappas 1/27/2005

So you're getting tired of tappas. Sure, I am, everyone is. The food isn't quite at the level of Cesar, but at least you can have a conversation. The bar's good, and every dish, every time has been a solid Yum - on my jaded ""living by the bay for 15 years"" scale. I have no idea why people are complaining about the service. It sure looks like one person had one bad experience and has logged in multiple times complaining. I found the service just fine - on par with what I'd expect from that sort of place. My favorite place 1/10/2005

Having been to A'Cote numerous times, I have never come away disappointed. The food is wonderful and the service is fine. My wine was corked without question and the ambiance is great. Eat in the back room if you can (they have heaters).( It reminds me of being in an Arabian tent). I am looking forward to going back. The food is average price and you can get out for $50.00 for two, including corkage. Critics of this place must be crazy. They dont take reservations so you may have to wait on a busy night. I love the food here. Hearty portions, good blend of flavors, reasonably priced. Yes, there are many reviews that criticize the service. It's not the best but not horrible. Go there for the food, the price will justify it (average $25/person, wine included). Pros: food! Cons: , service more

Absolutely the best cocktails in the East Bay. This is a great neighborhood bistro. Where else can you get a croque monsieur at 11:30 on Friday nite?? I'm addicted to the pommes frittes. A cote is definitely the best quaint bar/restaurant in Rockridge. The atmosphere is warm, the bar a great place to chat and munch on small plates. The patio is also a great romantic touch. Celebrated a friend's birthday here. Very romantic setting and we were seated outdoors but you would have never known because of the setup. ++! Servers are RUDE 6/4/2003

The waitstaff, besides our server three others interacted with us, were all RUDE. I felt like all of them were upset with our requests for things like pepper and a knife! The food was flavorful but the attitude was incredible, it was a half-full restaurant in Oakland for christsake, not the French Laundry! The server seemed peeved that we did not want our steak rare, and upset that we did not want bottled water and mad that we wanted fresh pepper on our salad. She actually rolled her eyes when I asked for salt for my fries. A restaurant that serves fries is too good to give patrons salt? Give me a break! East Bay gem 2/28/2003

After hearing great reviews about this place, I decided to check out this french take on tapas. The decor is warm and hushed, with beautiful light fixtures, red walls and interesting artwork. The crowd is more mature but the kind of eclectic east bay set that I would expect. The food in general was quite tasty, especially the pommes frites with aioli. Great ambience (though noisy) and fun samples of food... it'd be nice to have a few more choices, but we sampled alot and liked all. Don't miss the pomme frite and the duck & risotto.
