I live more than an hour away from the salon, but its well worth it. I have followed George thru out his.career. He is Ah-mazing! I feel like a movie star when I walk out of the salon. I have NEVER been disappointed! more

I am mostly writing this review in hopes that the owners will read it and take some kind of action in making their salon what it used to be!! I have been a very loyal customer for 6 years now...pretty much from the beginning....i have been a client of Johnnie's for most of the time and was very pleased with his work and service!!!! unfortunately he does not work on monday's which is my only day to get my hair done....therefore i have gone to 3 different girls in the salon in royal oak and was NOT impressed with any of them!! one week ago Monday i went in for highlights only (no cut) ....spent $149 , which was WAY overpriced considering the girl who did it has just finished her apprenticeship ......and i walked out with 1/2 inch of roots still......i went back to get it fixed and was treating very poorly!!!! i was told if i wanted my hair blow dried it was going to be another $30 ......i walked out with soaking wet hair only to go home and blow dry it and find out it looked WORSE than what i started with!!!! i tried contacting johnny to tell him about my awful experience with no response!!! i am SOOOO bummed about my experience and would not recommend them to anyone anymore!!!! not to mention my entire family that goes there ( which will no longer be going there) and friends as well!!! this salon used to be so great!! i'm not sure what has happened!!! its too bad!!! I am new in town and was walking around the city when I stumbled upon this salon. I walked in on a monday night and the girl at the front was just a doll! A cute red-head with an adorable style! She made me feel very comfortable and was not pushy at all. Not only did she give me a few cards but she also made me a list of promotions that go on there and told me to visit their website sixsalon (dot com) She was very helpful and I cannot wait for my first appointment! Although I have yet to get my hair done there, my first experience even in the spot was GREAT! They had an array of product lines and styling tools and even a real cute section of headpieces the girl I dealt with makes! Love this place so far! more

i was so disgusted after my experience at 6 salon downtown royal oak. I waited for almost an hour after my appointment to even be taken back to discuss what i wanted. Even after i spoke to my stylist, he seemed as if he wasnt listening to what i was telling him about what i wanted done. I kept my fingers crossed but to no avail, i left with fried blond highlights and a really bad haircut. After i had been sitting under the drier for way longer than i ever have, someone came up and offered me a conditioning treatment while i waited. I figured that would be nice but when i went to pay they charged me like 40 or 50 bucks for the treatment when i was under the impression it was complementary. Now im not the cleanest person in the world but this guy had the worst breath i have ever encountered. I was trying to breath through my mouth the whole time! now thats bad. I would not recommend this salon to anyone who wants to be presentable. I recently had my hair done at Six Salon. My appointment was at noon, and I was started an hour later at one. I was blonde and wanted to have low lights a dark golden blonde. After spending a total of $175, I left with a head full of lowlights, a reddish/brown ash color, which I don't think would be very flattering on anyone. I had to go back to get it fixed, and since I didn't want to spend an additional $200 to see someone new, I decided to go back to the same stylist. Once I was there, he was very nice, he put several blonde highlights in my hair, (to my dismay, since i was trying to preserve the health of my hair in the first place by getting low lights). He put me in under the dryer and NEVER even came to check on me! I ended up having to ask another stylist to go get him, knowing that I shouldn't be under the dryer for more then 10-15 minutes. After washing my hair, he put a toner on my highlights to make them darker. My hair is now stringy and lifeless, and I will be lucky if it doesn't all break off! If you want a good hair due, make your life easier and go see a professional and STAY AWAY FROM SIX SALON! Cons: Very pricey for Borics kind of quality more

Trendy, Edgy, but layed back with a focus on service. ""Would you like some wine?"" ""How bout a hot towel?"" This kind of service is second nature to all the staff at 6 and the owners promote a professional and comfortable environment. I've been getting my hair done by Tracey Tate for years now and I wouldn't dare let anyone else touch it. Go see for yourself. You will not be dissapointed. After 15 years of trying every salon around and never being satisfied with my hair, I was referred to George. George is amazing! I get compliments on my hair everywhere I go! I absolutely love it!! He made a comment to me the first time about how we spend tons of money on clothes and accessories, but our hair is something that is with us everywhere we go and why do people not consider it one of their priorities. He is totally right and I can tell you, he treats it like it is the first priority. \r The customer service is outstanding as well. I have never not been able to get an appointment when I need it and my job usually requires a last minute appointment because my schedule is so unknown. I called on 4th of July knowing they were probably closed when an employee had just stopped into the building to run an errand and still answered the phone and made me an appointment for the next morning at 8:30am. It was an emergency because we had a family reunion photo that day! They saved the day!!! And as always made me feel like a million dollars in the process! I heard of Salon 6 in Royal Oak and have never been in until recently. I went for a consult for Klix Hair extensions. I met with Kristine. She was Wonderful. She was very informative, very professional and explained everything clearly. I made my appointment for my hair extensions. I had never had hair extensions before, she was amazing. She did an impeccable job. She was confident through the entire service. With the extensions, no pain was involved as I have heard from others, it can be slightly painful. The color she chose for me is so perfect. She cut and styled the extensions afterward and I can say - I have not One complaint. Kristine is wonderful and very talented. The hair looks amazing!!\r The people who work at 6 Royal Oak are friendly and open and the Salon atmosphere is very Zen Modern. Very clean, Very organized and Professional. \r I highly recommend 6 in Royal Oak. I was at the point of giving up when I called 6 Salon in Birmingham for a color and cut appointment. I had never been there, but had recently gotten terrible cuts and color from two other very well known salons in Royal Oak and Birmingham- which were normally pretty good. My hair was very brassy, choppy and uneven, and I had been wearing it in a pony tail every day because I could do nothing with it. Enter Jeph Wright at 6 Salon in Birmingham. I googled him and did a little research and felt confident going to see him. I liked the fact that he is not pretentious at all. He was very friendly, gave honest advice about color and hairstyle, and made you feel as if you were his one and only client while you were there. My color came out beautiful (non-brassy soft grown close to my natural color with beigey blond highlights perfectly placed to make them low maintenance). I have been getting steady compliments on my cut and color since seeing Jeph. He also gets kudos for working with my natural wavy texture in terms of formulating a hairstyle, as most stylists want to just straighten it into oblivion every time. I will most definitely go back for cut and color from now on with Jeph. He is very talented, aware of the newest trends, has perfected beautiful natural looking color, and instinctually knows what suits you best. Consider yourself very lucky if you are able to get in with this award-winning stylist. i went there and booked an appoiment with one of the owners , i thought he was going to be excellent but instead he was stuck up rude and was not even paying attention . he has some body else do the highlights , he just cut a little here and there and that was it , and i payed about 250.it was not worth it. I've been having my hair cut by Lauren for a year and a half....she does an amazing job. She's great with my long hair. She listens well to what you want, but also has great ideas about what will work with your hair/face shape. I highly recommend her. And she does beautiful blow-outs/styles. The salon itself is surreal and full of fembots. The women have these insane fake tans and tons of makeup on, they all wear a variation on the same outfit--crazy tight, low riding jeans, bellies out and the whole nine... It's actually quite entertaining to check out the bizarre makeup on most of them. Somebody on the inside must be coaching them on how to wear their makeup. Lauren herself is a cute, normal girl--not a fembot at all. more

George has a GIFT and his talent shows in his work. He is a professional and acts like nothing less. The bottom line is he can cut and color like no other. The staff at 6 is top notch, couldn't be better. more

Having lived in Chicago for five years, I was unable to find a stylist who gave a cut that I not only liked, but could afford. So I came back to what I knew, and the extra money I paid in gas was worth it to me. I love the cuts I've received at the hands of George (twice) and Cori (countless), as well as the color I've received from Cori. In fact, even though it's been three months, my boss (a male in his 50s) thought this color was my natural color (God bless him). I've always found the staff courteous, complimentary, and never pushy. My only two complaints are that its somewhat loud and parking. Would not recommend this salon if you are looking for a good haircut. The stylist who cut my hair really didn't have a clue, the cut I was left with reminded me of hair from the early 90's. They did not seem to be very current with their technique and the blowout was somewhat amateur. Big disappointment. more

I first embarked upon 6 when I, rather my fiance, was looking to cut off my 18 inches of courgeous curly locks. I hadn't been there before, so they randomly hooked me up with Tony. Not only was it pure pleasure sharing my ""Samson & Delila"" moment with Tony (j/k), but he left me with a simple dew to style as well. Follow-up 'chops' have been great as well! Tony rocks! I have been a client of George for 10+ years--since he had his first job. He always does a great job and I always feel like a million bucks when I leave. I feel that I need to share my experience at ""6 Salon"". After having tried the salon a few years ago (reccommended by a friend), my experience was border line. I wasn't all that pleased with George and chalked it up to my inability to verbalize what I wanted. I opted not to say anything at the time and chose not return and look else where. Only when another friend suggested this same salon for my highlights, I thought maybe after a few years I would have better luck again. Well, not so!! My highlights were not balanced on each side. It was obvious to anyone looking at me, but all he did was repart my hair to cover it up. In all fairness, the color was okay, but I feel that if more attention was paid to one head at a time instead of passing me off to his apprentices he might have had a repeat client. And isn't THAT ""what it's all about"". You know how chit chat goes, well when I shared my experience, others chimed in to share theirs. Some were very close to the review that was posted about George's ego and how one pays alot for his services, but ends up tipping two others for washing and styling. I just finished reading a review from smrizzo.. talk about ego! Unlike a bitter red-head, I would highly recomend 6 salon to everyone looking for a truly amazing salon experience. I read about her alleged experience with George at 6 and don't believe her antics one bit. I have been following George much longer than 7 years and would highly recommend his professionalism and character to anyone! I love how my hair looks and feels everytime I leave. I have been going to George the owner of this salon for about 7 years and over the years his ego has gotten the best of him after placing chuncky red highlights in my hair without being asked if this was something i wanted I went back to get my hair fixed and to explain why I was upset nothing he wanted to hear and I was made to feel bad for being mad I do not feel he cared how upset I was when I left. there has been lack of communication for sometime with him there slogan is its all about you at 6 salon but with george lately ist all about him.
