My son has been taking piano lessons since he was 5 through 4/4 School of Music, 4 years so far. He loves it. He has had the same teacher for all 4 years, has made great improvements musically, and is encouraged every time he leaves his lesson.
I am not sure what the previous reviewer expected from music lessons, but this is the model for basically any person who gives lessons--private or through a school. You are paying them for their time and experience. My son's teacher talks to him through out the lesson, I talk to her before or after if I have questions. Music lessons are really not appropriate for children younger than 5 unless there is beyond obvious thirst for it. There are many other programs that offer group lessons for younger children out there.
I have heard that it can be difficult to keep instructors for some instruments such as violin, and that can be frustrating, but for guitar, piano and voice, I have seen the same great teachers at the school for years now.
Overall, I am very pleased and do not have to force my son to practice or go to lessons. He loves his teacher and enjoys creating music.
Pros: easy to contact, great teachers, many locations, happy son
Cons: Sometimes getting a time slot you want may be difficult
