Greatest oysters in NC! 6/8/2010

I love taking my woman here and eating at the oyster bar. it's not usually as long of a wait as it is to get a table. they shuck every thing for you and all you do is eat! i'll miss this place when i graduate! Pros: Sittin at the oyster bar Cons: sometimes a wait more

Not all it's cracked up to be 5/11/2010

I thought this place was a delicious place to eat seafood, though it didn't really wow me like I was expecting from the other people that had gone. It seemed a little pricey for what it was. I'm not arguing that it wasn't delicious, but just a bit of a disappointment based on what people had told me previously. The more money you pay, the more delicious the meal is, I can vouch for that though. Very crowded usually but service is still about as expected. more

extremely disappointed 5/3/2010

So, I had heard good things about 42nd Street Oyster Bar from co-workers and the boyfriend and I went there for ""date night"" this past Saturday. Pros: good hushpuppies and black eyed peas Cons: watered down drinks, lack of flavor, overpriced more

North Carolina's Best Oysters and Bands 4/20/2010

You can't go wrong with anything you order at this place ( the crabcakes need a little work). You gotta try the Key Lime Pie! All the food is cooked to order and served by some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. If you have any questions about the seafood or anything on the menu, just ask ANYONE that works there. Also, Don't miss out on the best bands the area has to offer. I have been to this place many times and have NEVER been disappointed. Pros: Freshest Seafood, Best Staff, Cold Beers & Steamed Oysters more

Can't get Enough 3/28/2010

Although we don't get out as much as we used to due to 3 children at home, when we do it's off to 42nd St for Food, Beverage, and Fun. The service and food have always been great and the management team is always assisting staff which I think is awesome. You just don't see that as much these days in other places. There is never a cover charge to listen to the bands on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Some of our favorite items are 42nd Street Oysters, buffalo shrimp, Shrimp Creole, Ahi Tuna, Crab Dip and steamed oysters. The last time we were in the oysters were from Pamlico sound and they were unbelievable. We love to sit at the oyster bar, as it is very laid back and a lot of fun. I can't wait to get a babysitter and get back. Yall rock 42nd Street! Pros: Courteous and Sincere Management and Staff Cons: Long wait times....hints a great restaurant more

!!!!!!42nd street oyster bar STAY AWAY!!!!!!! 3/19/2010

I went to 42nd on my b-day on march 17/10. I have read a few reviews and was hoping to have a great time but wow to make it simple the service sucks and the food tasted like my 3 year old brother cooked it. Pros: NONE spend your hard earned money elsewhere Cons: STAY away I wish they shut down. more

My favorite restaurant in Raleigh 12/11/2009

I LOVE the food here, especially the Seafood Fettuccine. Plus, they have an excellent selection of beer (over 100 different craft beers). The live bands can be hit or miss, but are usually pretty decent. I watched a State/Carolina game there last February and even they stopped playing to watch the last few minutes of the game Pros: FOOD Cons: Can get busy on the weekends more

Always a good time 5/18/2009

The calamari is always good and we enjoy the live bands on week ends. Sometimes the bar gets really packed but it is always fun and the crowd is a good one Pros: location and live music on week ends Cons: parking - bar area small more

A long time favorite 11/29/2008

After reading the previous review I have come to the conclusion that the review was written by a former employee who was terminated or a jealous competitor with nothing better to do than to hate on another restaurant. Pros: The whole 9 yards Cons: Lengthy waits on weekeds - hints , great place to go more

good place 11/27/2008

good place i highly recomend Pros: good food bands drinks more

always a favorite 10/2/2008

We love this place. Have been going here for years and have never had a bad meal. Service is among the best I've had in Raleigh. One suggestion, lose the live music. If people are paying $25 or more for a plate of food, they don't need to be screaming over the top of a bunch of whiny, beyond middle-aged, rockstar wannabees playing at blistering loud volume. I don't know why so many venues insist on having live music. It's not always necessary or fitting. This place is too classy to promote musical garbage. The natural noises of this place are part of what gives it so much character. Pros: great food, great service, plenty of parking Cons: annoying and unnecessary third-rate bands on weekends more

Great atmosphere, food and service 9/30/2008

I have never submitted comments about a restaurant I have gone too, until now. 42nd st merits any accolades it gets! Fantastic service, great atmosphere and a huge kitchen (most of which is in plain sight). Best of all the food was exceptional. I started with the Baked Oyster Sampler that consisted of 8 oysters prepared 4 ways. Next I had the Seafood Bisque and it was great. I would like to have had the special ""Cioppino"" a San Francisco tomato based Italian-styled seafood stew with shrimp, scallops, white fish, oysters, lobster, peppers and onions but I didn't have any room left. I saw a bowl if it go out and it looked amazing. Thanks to Charles for the great service and I will be back if ever in the area again. more

Best oster bar ever 8/27/2008

Wow me and my friends from California went to Charelston S.C. for a week and the food wasnt that great. But when we came to Raleigh we went out and ate at 42nd st. oyster bar and WOW what a great place. Everything was excelent from the food to the service.. I plan on going there again. High recommend this place to anyone ***** more

Rude Waitress Freda!!!! 7/24/2008

My friends and I were out at 42nd on Thursday, July 24,2008. We were having a good time until it was time to cash out. When I received my tab, I noticed I had been charged for something that I had not ordered. When I brought this to FREDA's attention, she became very irritated. After going back and fourth with Freda, she snatched the bill out of my hand and said ""f it"". I then proceeded to find the manager and told him about Freda's rude and non-professional behavior. As Freda stood to the side line with her hands on her hips, and her face tighter than a knotted rope, the manager apoligized for her behavior and took care of the bill. It was pointed out to me by my friend who attends 42nd every Thursday, that this was not the first time Freda had done this. My advice to anyone who would like a nice, courteous, professional waitress is to request another waitress if you are seated in Freda's section. And my advice to Freda, is check your attitude, learn how to handle yourself in a professional manner, if not find a NEW JOB, and please get a makeover. more

We had a great time 6/29/2008

We were we treated to great service, great food and a live band. What more could you ask for? We will be returning. more
