Uncooked 5/28/2011

Had dinner at 300 East last week. Sat outside on a beautiful day and enjoyed the nice setting 300 has for its guests. Yet.....ordered the pork medallion entr?e which arrived almost raw in the middle. Sent it back and all they did was to nuke it and put it back on the table. Would not recommend the Pork here........ more

Excellent Food... 1/24/2011

300 East has been a favorite of mine since moving to Charlotte in 2005. The food rarely disappoints. The Sunday brunch specials will knock your socks off, and if you need a good soup to warm your soul, look no further. That said, the service ranges from excellent to awful. More often than not, it is quite good. Bear in mind that it is a fairly casual environment, so you aren't going to get fine dining service, no matter how hefty your bill might be. Being a regular, I wish that the servers would notice that I tip fairly, even for poor service. I tend to assume that I caught a server having a bad day, and let it slide. These things happen. If you can forgive all this, the food is definitely worth it. The menu has some good, responsibly produced meats and vegetables, for those of you who care about that stuff. The sweet potato ravioli is always a treat. I get the Ahi Tuna Salad, and find it to be consistently enjoyable. The Niman Ranch Pork is absolutely fantastic. I don't eat dessert much, but i am willing to bet 300 East has some stellar creations. The weird outside table rule does baffle me, but we beat it by calling some more friends to join us. more

Our All Time Favorite 9/10/2010

My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary with dinner at 300 East. We continue to be amazed at the quality of this restaurant (the food and the service) over the many years we have been visiting. This place is locally owned, no franchise, no clone. Their long time specials are still special and yet there's always a good surprise if you're looking for something different. If you haven't eaten there, you should, it's just one of the nicest places in Charlotte. more

Won't Go Back!! 9/9/2010

My husband, myself and my little girl decided to eat lunch here one afternoon on a beautiful day! Although, after our rude experience we wished we would have gone somewhere else. We sat outside at a VERY small two top table that was part shade/part sun. After a few minutes we realized it was too much sun for our little girl so we asked to move to one of the EMPTY 4-top tables that was in the shade but we were told they were for ""larger"" parties. First of all, we had 3 people second there was NO wait and third, our child was burning up in the sun. more

outdoor seating 7/6/2010

My husband and I are from out of town and have previously eaten at 300 East with friends - so we thought we?d enjoy the cool 4th of July weather Charlotte was having and eat outdoors. When we asked if we could sit at the remaining unoccupied table, the hostess told us ?we like to save the four-tops for three or more customers.? Stunned (and hungry), we said okay. She sat us by a front window and near the front door and I counted three other ?couples? request the same outdoor table and they all received the same reply. The restaurant was very slow (maybe ten people inside) and the table remained empty during our lunch visit. From our previous visit, we remembered the food being very tasty. Unfortunately this was not the case this time. I ordered the Ahi salad and received two small pieces of tuna along with a very rubbery rice cake. The waitress never returned to our table so after waving her down, she did go back to the kitchen and tried a different method of warming the rice cake. She then told me the rice cooker was broken and that is why the cake was rubbery (?). Our meals were definitely not worth the hefty price tag and were very disappointing. We should have left once we were told we couldn?t sit at the empty table outside! Lesson learned. Pros: outdoor seating - IF you have the correct # in your party Cons: outdoor seating criteria, food portion vs. $, service more

Fresh Food, Unique Menu, So-So Service 4/4/2010

My girlfriend and I were looking for a low key outdoor dining experience for lunch this weekend while running some errands in Dilworth and decided on 300 East. The menu is compact and has a unique twist on traditional dishes. The service....we'll lets just say it needs some help. We were promptly seated in the garden bistro table section out in front of the restaurant which can be a little annoying if the bugs are out. We had waited a few minutes after being seated before being greeted by our waitress. Being a hot day, I ordered a beer and my girlfriend ordered a diet coke. About 5 minutes later she brought back the drinks, the diet coke being flat. Another 5 minutes pass by and the waitress came back and took our orders, my girlfriend ordered ""The Usual"" (open-faced chicken salad sandwich with asparagus and cheddar cheese) and I ordered a cheeseburger with bacon and jalapenos and a cucumber salad. Both of which were full of flavor and prepared very well. Waiting for the food took longer than usual or expected considering the restaurant was not even close to being busy. The waitress almost seemed as if we were a nuisance to her, only visiting our table when it was absolutely necessary (i.e. to get drinks, to take order, to bring food, to bring check). No check ups, no making sure food was prepared to our liking. It seemed like that was the norm for at least the patrons who were outside, as the other tables didn't appear to be getting much love either. 300 East is a place where I try to go because it's a local establishment and uses quality ingredients. And, yes, the food is great, but the service reminds me why I don't eat there more often. Pros: Food Quality Cons: Service more

Best meal in a long time! 4/10/2009

300 East was a true delight! We ordered the chicken with goat cheese and the hanger steak. It was the best meal we have had in a long time. Service was impeccable! Pros: Awesome food more

sabotage 8/13/2008

My girlfriend and I celebrated our 6 month anniversary here. It was truly a special night. We were seated upstairs and waited on by a professional and friendly staff. Our food was pretty good but my girlfriend's salad was small for the price. I had the Shrimp BLT Panini. It was delecious but quite spicy. It made my lips burn! But that wasn't a problem for me. The problem was four hours later when I was hunched on the can, pale and shivering. One may ask, ""Well how do you know it was the BLT?"" Let me just say this... It burned me twice. Pros: Great ambience, good service Cons: explosive rhea more

1/2 off wine night on Wednesdays AND Sundays can't be beat! 5/5/2008

I have been going to 300 East for years. It is a great restaurant with an affordable menu, large portions, and great food. Their appetizers are to die for - baked marinated goat cheese, sweet potato ravioli, hummus plate...you have to try their drink of the house - The Matilda Wong! The servers are all very nice, but my favorite thing about this place is the newest addition of the tall, strapping, hunky, bearded waiter, Otis. This guy is a great waiter and is so handsome! My girlfriends and I like to go just to check him out and be served by him. YUM. Pros: 1/2 off wine night, affordable, cheerful servers, outdoor dining, brunch Cons: No meals over 20 bucks...oh is that a con? more

Love this place 11/19/2007

Great food and nice ambiance... what more can I say but that we love this place, and not only because some of the menu items were our favorites in college. Great neighborhood...used to live in Dilworth...really miss it. The servers are always friendly, prompt with your food, and don't mind if you linger a while over your coffee at the end of the meal. We try to get to Charlotte often, and we always eat at 300 East. Pros: food and ambience Cons: can't think of any more

Great for singles or couples...no families please! 9/3/2007

Excellent food, wonderfully attentive staff, although there was a whiny child upstairs which pretty much ruined our entire visit because the place is so small and the sound carried horribly. Pros: Staff, food, patio, ambience Cons: too many children more

Fresh, Flavorful Food, cooked with perfection! 5/1/2007

Great food prepared just right, I'll be there for all my trips to Charlotte. What a great neighborhood reminiscent of Virginia Highlands in Atlanta. We were there for Easter Sunday, it was crowded, but we had superb customer service. Pros: Great location, quaint neighborhood Cons: Only in Charlotte more

We had brunch for the first time at 300 East on a Sunday. They were extremely busy, and I now understand why. Everything about the place was fabulous. All of the items on the menu sounded so good I couldn't make a decision on what to get, and the service was great. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back. more

Nice Bistro 12/11/2005

Been there many times and still loving it. This place has all the European bistro flavors i was looking for. I highly recommend the chicken sandwich for lunch and the steak for dinner. Our server is always great and helpfull. The patio during hot season is just amazing. A ""must try"" ! Pros: bistro ambience, food , service Cons: parking more

300 East 7/1/2003

You know, this looks like it would be a great place to eat. The neon.. the outside decor.. the patio. The staff was very friendly and attentive. But.. the booths seats are terribly stiff and hard (terrible for lounging for a long lunch!!!) The food is overpriced for what they serve... and nothing I have had in either of my two lunchtime visits was even remotely worth mentioning. If you go.. sit outside on the patio and just drink wine. I won't be returning. Pros: Outside Patio, Friendly Servers Cons: Terrible Food, Overpriced, Uncomfortable seating more
