For the longest time, I only knew of one reputable bakery in Charlottesville: the Albemarle Baking Company. There was never a reason to look around, since the ABC had such a wide variety of high-quality products. However, on a whim, I decided to give Breadworks a try. This little bakery near Integral Yoga and Mona Lisa Pasta shocked me with the quality and quantity of unusual baked goods. Their chocolate croissant in particular was the best I’ve had outside of New York City.
Their service is mediocre, not nearly as friendly as the college-aged students assisting you at ABC. Try bargaining with the owner though, especially on the day-old goods.
