Review content:
I read some of the reviews on this site which seemed pretty positive, so decided to give this place a shot. Unfortunately, while it wasn't terrible, it was something of a disappointment. The room was quite loud so everyone was practically yelling, including my date and I. This problem was compounded by the fact that the table for two was of the long, narrow variety, so we were sitting much further apart than usual. The wine list was extensive, and mostly focused on Italian wines, obviously, although the "by-the-glass" list was much shorter. Mixed drinks were served with almost all alcohol. The food was very much a mixed bag. We ordered the eggplant appetizer, and it had much an appearance similar to a tin of cat food, and the flavor was not "world-class" but more like the fare you would expect at much cheaper restaurants. One of our dishes was a passable gnocchi dish, which was somewhat bland, not at all what one would expect from somewhere this expensive. We also had a veal special, which was quite good. The service was in line with what you would expect, quite attentive and responsive. Dinner for two came to about $110 with a couple drinks and an appetizer.
The net of all of this is that I probably won't be returning. At these prices, I expect a high-end ambiance and a solid line-up of food. If you are in the mood for Italian, I would recommend the Sisley up the street on Sepulveda and Ventura or thereabouts from personal experience.
Ambiance: 2/5
Drinks: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Food: 2/5
Pros: Good service, solid wine list, reasonable parking
Cons: Mixed food, awkward seating, loud environment
