"I live in John's Landing so it was only natural I would check out the asian car repair place in my hood (now they advertise both domestic and foreign car repair).
The first thing I noticed when I walked up to his desk, was underneath a sheet of glass were about 20 thank you cards from customers. You can't make this stuff up, these are sincere thank you cards for a wonderful mechanic. I ended up needing to spend about $800.00 on my car, but I got ALOT of stuff done. I was just about at 100K miles on my RAV4. I called my dad told him what i was getting done (which i don't remember exactly at this point sorry) and told him how much, and he was impressed.
only downfall is that he's not open on weekends, but its worth it to go out of your way to leave your car on a weekday (not a specific appt time, usually just the morning) and he'll look at it as soon as he can. my air conditioning broke during the hot weather and i walked in on a tuesday and told him i could leave it there thursday. he called me within the hour i left my car there with its diagnosis.
fact of the matter is - Scott at John's Landing Automotive is an honest man and he's not trying to rip anyone off. Its always hard to find that mechanic you can trust when you don't already have one, I feel so fortunate that the first one I stumbled upon after I moved to Portland was in my neighborhood, and is perfect. Even if you are not in the hood, its super easy to get to off the I5 - first exit after Marquam bridge then on to Macadam Blvd."
