Review content:
TJ's Hero Shop, located on Mastic Rd. in Mastic Beach, with other locations on East Main St. in Patchogue and on Middle Country Rd. in Middle Island, has been a weekly destination for my family. Their heroes, particularly their 20 specialty heroes, are quite good. The Stealth and Louisiana Lightning, hot pork and hot chicken, respectively, with lettuce, tomato, onion, and the sweet and spicy Stealth sauce, are good choices, as is the Big Steer, an 11 oz. cheeseburger on a hero with all the fixings. They have daily specials, with Wednesday as 2 heros for $10.79 and other days devoted to other sandwiches. They also have a special with half a hero, a drink and macaroni salad, potato salad or cole slaw for $5, which beats most national chain sub shops. Unlike the national chains, they lay lots of meats and fixings on the hero, and the hero is quite a huge affair.
