The United Way of the Bluegrass has a Get on Board initiative to strengthen the community through the cultivation of a widely diverse pool of candidates who can be accessed for greater non profit board effectiveness. It was born out of the Racism Summit held in November 2001 when the United Way of the Bluegrass, The Urban League of Lexington - Fayette County, the National Conference for Community and Justice - Bluegrass Region, and the First - Link of the Bluegrass formed a steering committee to create a program to recruit, train, and place diverse and under-represented populations on non - profit boards in Central Kentucky.
