Review content:
This symphony has been celebrated by the likes of the New York Times and Time Magazine as a model for other orchestras of it's size. It is a fabulous asset to the community and a gift to have such wonderful music in the Cedar Rapids area.
The Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra held its inaugural concert on April 13, 1923 in Sinclair Auditorium on the Coe College campus. In 1982, Christian Tiemeyer, then associate director of the Dallas Symphony, was selected as music director. Under his artistic leadership, the symphony has become the largest in Iowa, with an annual budget of over $1.7 million and performing 32 Classical, Pops, Chamber, Youth and Discovery concerts. As a professional orchestra with 82 musicians contracted for an average of 80 rehearsals and performances each season, the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra maintains a significant economic presence in the community.
