So it starts off sad--my incredibly thoughtful EX boyfriend decides to break up with me 2 days before my 30th birthday, which happened to be the day that 8 of my closest friends from New York flew in to help me celebrate. Class, I know. The topper, was that he was the one who was supposedly planning my party, and needless to say, we decided NOT to go to the club he had planned for. This is where Dakota comes in. The afternoon of my birthday, my friends and I are trying to find a suitable place to get drunk and welcome me into my new decade. Clubs and promoters were, literally, either laughing at me or acting like I was a small town hick with no knowledge of how things work in a big city (oh, did I mention that this was a Saturday and the night before Valentine's Day?). After calling at least 8 or 9 Hollywood clubs and venues and bars, we call Dakota. The girl who answered was not only super sweet, but patiently went over bottle service options, cover, etc. Then, when we ask about the bands, she puts the venue's booker on the phone, who explains what the bands were like and what we can expect from the live music. They reserve a table for us, and, with everything being SO easy and they girls being SO nice and helpful, my friends and I were joking around that the venue must be real s#*%hole and we were probably going to show up and it was going to smell and be nasty. We show up, preparing for the worst, and it was THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE. Not only was the service perfect, our waitress awesome and funny, the bartenders and door girl super sweet, but the music was INCREDIBLE (awesome 80s bands) and the place was jam-packed of really cool people! And when I mean packed, I mean, there were probably at least 300 people in there. And we were even more surprised that the girls had been so nice in getting us a table last minute when we realized that Lauren Conrad was in the VIP lounge, celebrating a friends birthday. How is this possible? I'd heard mixed reviews about this place, but after actually going there in person for the first time, I can't understand what all the hating is about. Not a single person there looked like they were having anything but the best time. Check it out for yourself! Pros: Super friendly staff, great music Cons: Parking--get there early on the weekends
