Review content:
I have been a member of the Bangor YMCA for almost two years. I enjoy taking their water aerobic classes. The instructors are wonderful and very knowledgeable. However, the water is too cold for most people and the cleanliness has something to be desired.
The dressing rooms are not cleaned on a regular basis, and if they are they do a poor job. The drains in the shower area are black/green with mold and mildew. The hot tub usually has stuff floating in it and I can't tell you the last time they cleaned the mirrors since there is still mascara on them from two years ago! You can chip it will your nail so you know it can be cleaned.
I used to use the fitness room but stopped because the members were not following the rules about wiping down the equipment after they used it and the staff was not enforcing it. Who wants to lay on a work bench after someone gets up and it's soaking wet.
Parking is terrible, especially in the winter. During the winter months they barely plow the parking lot and no one seems to know were to park to a lot that usually can hold maybe 60 cars only holds 30 in the winter. They do not sand or salt the lot and it's hazardous to walk from the back of the building all the way to the front without slipping and falling.
Costs have sky rocketed in the last year. Childcare for members using the facility use to be free and now it's $3.00 and hour. Many people have discontinued their memberships just on that issue.
I love the instructors so I continue to go, however if they were to replace the instructors or discontinue the water aerobic I would drop my membership in a heart beat.
