First off, the owners are the same ones that owned the old Rivera's restaurant that use to be on the N/W corner of 10 mile and Gratiot. Those in the know will remember that they had the best fish and chips on the eastside and every Friday people were lined up outside the door to get some. Well, the current place has the same recipe and that brought us to Louis' the first time. The fish and chips were excellent but not as good as I remember them from 10 and Gratiot...maybe because the pieces were smaller and more crispy back then.

I have eaten at fine steak houses like Chris Ruth's (very good), Don Shulas (yuck) and others in that class and IMHO I think Louis' is just as good if not better. I usually get the 16 ounce rib eye with zip sauce and I've never tasted any better. It has always been cooked to my liking (medium/medium well). The service has always been adequate to excellent.

We ate there last night. It was our 5th time going there. I had the lemon rice soup which was better than any I've ever eaten in Greek Town. And something I found out...all their salad dressing and desserts are made in house. They had a fish special last night, Mahi Mahi with a blueberry/raspberry sauce that, honestly, was one of the best fish dishes we've ever eaten....when in Florida we eat fish every day but none compared to what we had last night in Michigan...a grand slam home run. I also had the other special, a bone in "prime grade" filet mignon that was done perfectly (medium) I and didn't need a knife to cut it (butter soft). I usually get a baked potato but last night for some reason I ordered the Au Gratin potatoes....OH MY. I will never order another baked potato there again...believe me on this one folks. My better half is on one of those no potato/rice diets and follows it religiously and she ate half my order.

Bottom line, they've got some really good things going on there. And I can't wait to go back.
