Review content:
I don't usually bother reviewing restaurants. Personal taste is just that, personal. But there are instances where the quality of the food is just so bad that I feel it's my responsibility not only to warn people to dine at their own risk as well as give the restaurant itself a "heads-up" and a chance to improve their business in order to compete.
I just had the very worst Mexican meal I've had in a long time. How can any Mexican restaurant worth their salt completely ruin Huevos Rancheros?! Hard cooked fried eggs, no cheese, a huge flavorless pile of uniformly pale colored Spanish rice and I actually had to ask for corn tortillas and beans otherwise there would have been none at all on the plate. And when I asked for a side of sour cream I received something that was the consistency of frosting. I was so disappointed. It was like eating cardboard and if I wasn't so hungry and if it wasn't so apparent based on the look of my meal partner's dish (a barely distinguishable enchillada) that this was the best they could do I would've sent it back to the kitchen. Instead I'm leaving this review.
On a better note, the service was well-intentioned even if they had no timing skills. It would've been apparent that the food was sub-par if they'd cared or even been more observant. Maybe someday management will improve this place. And unless they do, one can only hope they go out of business and allow a more industrious and authentic restaurant to take their prime spot alongside the American River.
