1. BLUE AND GOLD MACAW.....NO FOOD AT ALL, A TINY BIT OF SUNFLOWER SEED SHELLS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE BOWL. FEATHERS VERY RUFFLED AND VERY TRAUMATIZED AND SICKLY LOOKING.
2. IGUANAS.....NO HEAT LAMP, NO ULTRA VIOLET LIGHTING. ALL OF THE BABY IGUANAS SHOWED SIGNS OF ILLNESS AND SEVERE CALCIUM DEFICIENCY. BONE MALFORMATION ALREADY STARTING.
3. OVER TEN BUNNIES CRAMMED INTO A SMALL CAGE DESIGNED FOR ONLY 1 OR 2 ANIMALS. GUINEA PIGS MIXED IN WITH THE BUNNIES! THEY WERE SCARED OUT OF THEIR WITS HUDDLED IN THE CORNER. THEY WERE BABY GUINEA PIGS.
4. LOVEBIRDS....ONLY HAD KAYTEE EXACT FOR MACAWS AND LARGE PARROTS IN THEIR DISH. THE FOOD WAS BIGGER THAN THE BIRDS. THE WATER DISH WAS FULL OF THE FOOD WHICH HAD SUNK TO THE BOTTOM BECAUSE THE BIRDS WERE TRYING TO MOISTEN IT TO MAKE IT EDIBLE FOR THEMSELVES. UNLESS THEY LEARN TO DUNK THEIR HEADS IN THE WATER AND AND RETRIEVE IT, THEY ARE OUT OF LUCK.
5. CONGO AFRICAN GREY PARROT.....HAD FRUITLOOPS FOR FOOD, I'M NOT KIDDING. NO TOYS, ONE PERCH THAT IS TOO SMALL FOR A PARROT, NOT TO MENTION THE PERCH WAS A CHEAP PLASTIC ONE WITH SHARP GROOVES TO DIG INTO THE BIRDS FEET. VERY UNALERT AND INATTENTIVE FOR AN AFRICAN GREY PARROT, IT SEEMED SICK, OR SEVERELY DEPRESSED.
6. OMG, THE PUPPIES IN THE BACK ROOM TO THE LEFT WERE LIVING IN HORRID CONDITIONS. ONE OF THE PUPPIES CAGE BOTTOM WAS PARTIALLY COLLAPSED BECAUSE IT WAS INSTALLED WRONG. OF THE 3 PUPPIES NONE HAD WATER. ONLY ONE HAD SOMETHING TO LAY ON OTHER THAN THE WIRE CAGE BOTTOM. AND ONLY 2 OF THE 3 HAD A TOY. FECES ALL OVER THEM. I WANTED TO GRAB THESE BABIES AND RUN OUT OF THE STORE. MY HEART WAS BROKEN AFTER SEEING THESE CONDITIONS.
I COULD SITE THESE PET SHOP OWNERS FOR AT LEAST 10 MAJOR VIOLATIONS EASILY.
I'M GOING TO TALK TO THE MAGISTRATE ABOUT THESE DEPLORABLE CONDITIONS, BUT OUR GREAT STATE OF NC HAS WEAK ANIMAL PROTECTION LAWS AND ONLY CATS AND DOGS ARE INCLUDED IN THESE LAME LAWS THAT DO EXIST. BIRDS, REPTILES, RABBITS, AND RODENTS ARE NOT COVERED!
