Review content:
As a previous reviewer noted, this apartment complex is indeed in a nice safe neighborhood. I never had any problems with my neighbors while living here. However, the buildings themselves are very old and run-down. Improvements have been made to the property, but they are all superficial. Basically they have tried to make everything look better without fixing major underlying problems. The walls are thin; the units are drafty; the new siding that was applied a few years ago was so cheap it is already cracking off. The appliances and light fixtures in most units are 25 years old, and in many cases barely functional. But good luck trying to convince the office staff to replace an appliance that isn't working! Even though the maintenance staff at this complex is friendly and skilled, they cannot make up for an office staff who act like they could care less if your unit burned to the ground.
I had numerous maintenance issues while living here, and often was told by the maintenance staff that they would like to fix a problem for me, but the office staff had forbidden them to do so. For instance, for the first several months I lived in the apartment, my bathroom kept being flooded with water coming through the ceiling from the bathroom upstairs. Maintenance wanted to investigate the plumbing problem but the office staff kept insisting that the problem was being caused by a little boy who lived upstairs splashing too much water at bathtime. Never mind that we are talking BUCKETS of water here--- far too much to have been a simple spill! I dealt with water pouring through my ceiling for months before I finally managed to get the office staff to let maintenance fix the problem, which wound up taking them about 20 minutes to fix.
Other things it took me up to a year of complaining to have fixed included a broken burner on my stove and malfunctioning oven. I had to take care of an ant infestation myself by recaulking my entire bathroom myself (the ants were coming in through the wall that had been damaged by the repeated flooding mentioned before-- water damage which they, of course, refused to repair). I fixed broken doors, loose linoleum, and many other issues myself also after getting tired of waiting.
Some of my neighbors had a problem with squirrels coming into their attic crawlspace, and the office refused to help despite the fact that squirrels can be a serious fire hazard (they like to chew through wiring). And the entire complex suffers from a serious, chronic carpenter bee infestation that the office refuses to do anything about. Not a single person could leave their apartment last summer without getting divebombed by huge carpenter bees, because they had built nests in every deck, balcony and staircase on the property!
It looks nice for the price, but don't be fooled-- just don't live here.
