From experience, the best time to eat at Elmers is a Saturday or Sunday morning - skip any other times. The best cooks and best help don't seem to work the dinner shift. Our last two times at Elmers were for dinner and both times it was an awful experience. The first time, our food didn't arrive for over 45 minutes. The manager apologized saying that he was training 2 new cooks and that the food they prepared didn't pass his inspection so he threw it out and recooked our order himself. The second time, we were served by a new waiter. After taking our order, he promptly forgot to enter it in the computer system. After an hour wait, another waiter (of more experience) noticed us sitting there with no food. She's the one that found out our order was never placed. The original waiter never did check on us except to give us our check. They did give us a free dessert (which wasn't that tasty) but that certainly didn't make up for the experience of hungry and now-tired and cranky kids. On a good note, the restaurant always seems clean. Bottom line, go for breakfast during weekends.
