I moved to the area about five months ago and after careful consideration decided to visit Mario Tricoci's salon up in Vernon Hills. I had walked by many times and it was always packed with people, so I thought that I would give it a try. Previous I had had my hair cut at Toni & Guy (TiGi) and Paul Mitchell, however no luck in finding those places in the Chicago area.
The salon was buzzing. I was treated professionally by staff. They seemed very organised and the wait wasn't too long. I had booked an appointment with Marlene. She greeted me and didn't really let me finish (after asking me!) with how I wanted to get my hair cut. I had asked for layers, an inch or two off the bottom and sweeping bangs that started at my cheekbone and graduated down. I had used the terms "choppy" and "texturised".
As she cut my long hair, it gradually became shorter and shorter and then some. She finished my cut in 20 minutes and let one of the students blow dry my hair as she attended to other appointments she had booked in. As my hair became drier, it was noticebly shorter (almost shoulder length!), however the layers weren't as "choppy" as I would have liked them to be. There is about an inch from the bottom up that is layered, the rest is poker straight. My face hasn't been particularly framed by feathering and for my bangs...well it started by my forehead - even though I had explictly asked for it to start at my cheek. I looked like a frumpy frankly put. Not edgy and cool like I had wanted to. Frumpy isn't a good look for a 23 year who prides herself on dressing fashionable with a twist. Marlene had also promised to texturise my hair after it had been cut...virtually no texturisation there.
Needless to say that I am never getting my haircut there again.

I don't mind paying the bucks for a good haircut (I only go every couple of months or so), but I do like to pay for quality...which in this case I have gotten.
