The first impression I got of Golden Rule as I drove by it, was of a friendly place. Stopping in, I was right.
Upon entering, we were greeted by our server,Misty, who promptly showed us to our table.
When we were seated, Misty came by and took our drink order, I ordered a Sweet Tea, which is one of the best Sweet Teas I have had since being in the south.
After bringing our drinks out to us, Misty brought us some corn muffins for a starter, and asked us if we were ready to order yet. Looking over the menu it was a bit hard to choose, there were many choices, from sandwiches, to ribs, to steaks, and a couple salads to choose from.
On top of that the smell was wonderful, I'm not really one for the smell of BBQ in a confined area, but this was not an overwhelming smell, and in fact helped me choose what I ordered to eat.
I chose the #5, the Barbecue Regular Pork Sandwich with 2 sides. I got the fried okra and the baked beans as my sides.
About 10 minutes, we received our order (our 18 month old was brought out hers first so she could start eating and give us a chance to eat our in peace, anyone with a kid knows what a relief it is to be able to enjoy your food without interruptions!)
The first thing I tried were the baked beans, they were hot, tender, sweet, and spicy. Some of the best I have had, they were perfect, only thing that would have made them better would have been some smoked bacon added to it, but all in all they were very tasty.
I next tried the fried okra, this was perfectly seasoned, very crisp on the outside and very tender and sweet on the inside. I prefer mine with ranch dressing, but it was also good with their south style mustard sauce they had. (As were the corn muffins too)
The pork sandwich was perfect for me, the bun was toasted, the meat was tender and shredded, and it wasn't completely saturated in sauce, which for me that is just fine.
Biting into it, I had a medley of flavors coming together in my mouth, from the taste of the buttery toasted bun, to the sweetness and smokiness of the pork, to the tanginess of the sauce they used.
Not only was the service here wonderful, but the prices were reasonable, kids under 10 eat free, and the food was superb.
If you are visiting any BBQ restaurant, I suggest this one, or one of the many other locations that they have in the south.
