Review content:
We have a Captain D's close to our house, and we like to go there now and then when we are in the mood for fish but don't want to pay an arm and leg for it. The one we go to is very nice, it is clean and the people there are friendly.
I will have to say it is not the same as it was when it was run by Robin and Gary a couple of years ago. The atmosphere then was so upbeat it was a joy to go there and we were there at least once a week. But the new owners are doing a good job, the food is just as good, the folks are friendly and the place is clean.
Good food and keeping it clean are the most important things to me (and keeping the tea coming). I almost always get the catfish dinner because it does not have as much batter on it as the regular fish. It is done "country style" with cornmeal batter. I also like their chicken strip dinner. They have the best chicken in town. Several times I have bought their chicken strip tray to take to parties or for special occasions and everyone raves about the taste.
If you have a Captain D's near you and you haven't tried them give them a try. Their fish is a mild white fish and is not strong tasting at all. The batter is a little thick, but you can pull some of that off if you prefer. Their cole slaw is very good, as is their hush puppies and fries. The whole plate is pretty much a heart attack waiting to happen, but you can get the fish broiled and you can substitute green beans or corn for the fries. So if you want to eat healthy there is always a way.
